Not correct. If the solution is 10,000 dKH then any volume of that solution is 10,000 dKH.

IMO, it's a serious issue that web sites do not seem to understand this and make ambiguous statements about potency since it is not clear what they mean. I addressed this with Lou Ekus of Tropic Marin once, but it is more widespread.

If a solution contains 100 grams of carbonate per litre. Two litres will contain 200 grams. That is what BRS means. Yes, it is incorrect to express it like that in KH.

I am sure that BRS got the info from Nyos.
Gives me no confidence in the company making the product if they do not now basic units of the product they are making.

It is not only Nyos and BRS it is very wide spread.

Yes. I know but we should not accept it as being correct just because it is common mistake. It is still a basic unit that we should expect to be used correctly on products we purchase.

The 2,000 and 5,000 mL descriptions are simply wrong, and if all you saw was that one sentence on one of them, you'd make a serious mistake.

I agree that it does not give one confidence and that whoever wrote it lacks any understanding of the words being used.

Fortunately, that was not likely the same person who designed it. lol

The things people get hung up on is truly astounding

And I say that as someone who is very picky about grammar and definitions in normal day to day life

As long as there are entire countries refusing to adopt even the most basic SI units, this seems an infinitely small issue. One I can’t be bothered to care about.

It’s not a unit choice. It’s a simple wrong statement with totally unclear meaning. I don’t care if they give alk potency in gigamoles per cup, as long as it is accurate and interpretable.

If I say a dosing solution has 500 dKH in 100 mL, what does that even mean?

Well I just took advantage of the 50% off sale that BRS has going on today with this stuff. I bought 2 kits and 10 ea of the larger 2 part bottles. I have been using BRS 2-part with the addition of TM balling part C but am going to give this a try for a whiled.

Based on the comparative volume, regular pricing, and potency implied by the BRS calculator, you get 57 cent of value from Nyos Ion-B for every dollar spent relative to ESV Bio-Ionic. Nyos is 15% more potent but you pay $20 for 2000ml of Ion-B vs $19 for one gallon of ESV. ESV is better value by a wide margin if the potency calculator on BRS is correct.

The positive for Nyos is it has a 3-bottle adjustable trace system that integrates with its system that doesn’t seem unreasonably priced.

I personally waiting for Modern Reef to come out to give that system a shot. There are some absolutely incredible tanks running that system.

Hi Randy,

you are totally right, saying "10.000 dKH per Liter" is not correct as in dKH is already the Volume Liter built in.

We still decided to use it because it is a standard practice in Europe and our customers are hobbyists. We wanted to point out that if you buy 2.000ml you basically buy "20.000 units of dKH". It makes prices more comparable because you can just divide the Price by "20.000 units" and you know how much you pay per unit (Sample: MSRP ION-B ALK/PH 2.000ml 19,99$ --> devided by 20.000 units is 0,0009995 USD per unit or better 0,99 USD per 1.000 units dKH). If we only wrote "10.000 dKH", people would not see that link between price and concentration*volume because not everybody is familiar what dKH actually means. I think it is very important that people understand only the "20.000 dKH" they are getting is the real value, the rest is just water. We recognized in the past people just compared Price per Volume (USD per Liter) which tells you absolutely nothing about the value you are getting.

Also, it makes calculating ALK very easy: If you add those 20.000 units to a 1.000 L tank, you ALK will raise by 20 dKH (dont do that 😉).

We recently relaunched the ATI ICP Elements ( see here: https://shop.atiaquaristik.com/reeflab/icp-elements/ ) and we also wrote the total µg per element on the bottle because this is in our opinion the only way to make prices more transparent to customers and more comparable.

RoanokeReef, yes it will be available Q1 in the US. We will launch it January in Germany. It will be the exact same product like the liquids, just more economically. The idea is you dissolve the whole canister (100% of it) at once (and it makes exactly 3 liters). We hope this makes the dissolving as easy as possible.
