Hi.

Not quite ready to panic over this but tonight I noticed my blonde naso acting a bit unusual. When I went to feed tonight I noticed he was not eating and appeared almost lethargic. While all my other fish were in a feeding frenzy it literally was just hovering in place smack dab in the middle of the tank almost frozen for like 5 mins as all the other fish were rushing around him eating. He does not show any signs of external parasites or discoloration. I did feed way later than usually today hoping maybe it was just exhausted from swimming all day. Will see how he responds in the morning to a feeding but curious if this behavior sounds odd at all.

Is this a new or young naso? If so, there has been an ongoing issue for about 19 months now- this has been a trend. An influx of these fish are coming from Sri Lanka and it is suspected that a method of capture is contributing to this trend in which the fish appears healthy the first few days and then weakens quickly with loss of appetite and strength and as you found laying on its side, thin body and breathing heavy until death. It may be due to cyanide capture but unconfirmed.

Let us know if it doesn’t eat today. Posting a video of it under white light can help us diagnose issues.

@vetteguy53081 I have had it now for about 4 monthly. Probably still 4 inches ignoring tail so still young for the most part. I have not caught mine yet laying on the ground unable to support himeself or really breathing heavily for that matter. His stress marks or fins are never visable or raised He has just been suspending in the same spot Same direction on the opposite side of where he sleep. If i put a scrapper pole near him he will casual swim back to where he sleeps. But will then go back to the same spot same direction. At first I thought it playing dominants and trying to get a new spot but there no aggression among him or the other fish and as mention seems to be passing on food now which is what has become odd. Hopefully this is not a case for what you are referring to.

@Jay Hemdal it did not eat this morning still just hovering locked in one spot. Will try to post a video. In a bit.

Four months is good as this occurs generally within 6-10 weeks.
Is it suspended in the path of water flow, or just suspended within tank?
Assuming it has eaten for you, what foods were you trying to feed or have fed it?

There is random flow in all direction of my tank. But does look to be in the path of a small current. Food source mainly nori with a pitch or two of Marine flake. Here a video. 2.5 hours later still in the exact same spot and position.

Rib line starting to show, fish breathing a little elevated and body mass looks better than most ive seen. Diet is insufficient. Add foods such as mysis shrimp, LRS herbivore diet (watch your tangs go nuts) and als0 Formula 2 or Hikari veggie diet-frozen.
Does Naso shake its head , or sudden darting?

was planning later to go grab some cubes. Will see what happens. Already feeding the ca mysis blend flake by cobalt. As for the shaking and darting…..nope. Has always been the most mellow swimmer of the group.

While 4 months is on the outside of the time frame we usually see with blond nasos, it’s only by a few weeks. Everything else points to that - all other fish doing well and then the blonde naso just starts acting off for no apparent reason.

Thanks for all the input. At this point he still has yet to eat after a full day. Even turned down mysis cubes earlier. Has slowly been drifting around this evening under the blues and still fully supporting himself. Haven’t notices any aggression from the other tangs so not sure if stress can be blamed . At this point guess Ill just continue to mix up food and let fate decide given all other fish appear perfectly fine.

Try putting garlic in the food to really make him want it, he does look a bit skinny but doesn't look to have any disease to me... not sure what's going on but I do know that what @vetteguy53081 is saying is going on right now, but if you had him for 4 months. I would think he is in the clear but idk

Garlic will help boost immunity but wont do much otherwise

But if he isn't eating it will entice him more then just regular food
For some, garlic extract can be an enticer but I would not rely on it to do so

So just to report back. After almost 2 and a half days of not eating the naso randomly went back to eating as if nothing ever happed and is doing well swimming along side my other tangs again

Dino’s have started to pop back up in my tank in some spots. Wondering is maybe he ate some by mistake.
