I was running closer to 10 but think I'll bring it down to 9 now that I'm looking to get further into SPS

Hey guys, I know this is a club thread, but this seems to be the better of the EcoBak threads.

My EcoBak has been running since Oct, and just this week I have red and green cyano that appeared on my sand.

Tank has been up for almost 2.5 yrs, runs fairly clean and stable.

Try dosing a bacteria, whether it's something like MB7 or MicrobeLift Special Blend you most likely have a bacterial imbalance and one of those may help balance things back out.

I just added mb7 today. See how it does.

Is there a particular reason you like it better, James?

Less noise, heat, and clutter in sump as I was throttling back a MJ-1200 to run before. Easier to control with two valves in line now too.

After nothing but problems with Cyano while running Ecobak I have removed them from my system and almost instantly the Cyano disappeared after i treated with Chemiclean. Not sure what has changed in running this product but i can no longer see it as a plus in Po4 reduction and will go another direction and rely on my deep sand bed to handle phosphate.

Bill I had some problems with the dr tims also. Drove my nitrates down and phosphate climbed terribly.
My Phosphates were 0.00 on the hanna checker and had terrible algae issues and Cyano at the same time, After removing the EB it was gone in 12 hrs

I've had ecobak for a long time battled cyano alot. I may try reducing it slowly to ensure my ATS can handle my bioload

I've thought about getting Brightwell's MB7 or something similar to make sure I have all the bacteria necessary to be effective. I added GFO to get my phosphates down to where they needed to be even with Dr. Tims bio-pellets.

Bill, did you add all the EcoBak at once?
It was only 250ml that had been in the tank since it was set up, My 48hrs with Chemiclean was up Sunday night and I did a 20% water change and this morn the tank looks pristine with no trace of Algae or Cyano. The Polyp ext on my SPS is better than i have ever seen in this tank and looks like there's no water in the tank it's so clear.
I did fine for years without EB and will return to those methods of water Mgmt again, Lots of ways to be successful in this hobby.

This is interesting...

The first and only multiple Polymer, multiple Carbon source bio pellet to hit the market. Multiple Carbon sources encourage a greater diversity of bacterial strains and is particularly effective for systems with stubborn nuisance algae including Cyanobacteria. ecoBAK PLUS also includes a single dose of the upcoming ecoBAK SPARK product to reduce time for nutrient reduction.
