I don't know out of 100 or so frags purchased from 3 different places in the last 2 years, I have never dipped a single frag. I get them, inspect them and they go right into the display. Fish, I have purchased from four 4 or 5 different places, I float the bags add tank water 3-4 times and they go into tank. Only fish I have ever lost beside jumping out of tank were some that died from poor treatment during shipment, on delivery truck for 12 hours in 120 degree weather. Cool packs were not cool any longer, Styrofoam can only protect so much I was surprise any survived.

Bayer attacks the central nervous system of living things. Corals do not have a central nervous system therefore Bayer cannot hurt coral. But it is very effective at offing any bugs that may be living on the coral.

every coral i've ever dipped in bayer - the skeleton is completely exposed the skin is burned right off and the polyps are not visible. after about 2 weeks of being in the tank the polyps start to show and the skin starts to come back but i would never use it again

Oh no that's terrible. Did you noticed if it was worse on sps or lps frags? I dipped 6 frags this time and only the sticks really really hated it.

Thank you for sharing your hiccup- you may have lost some of your corals, but you have saved some of mine in the future!

As others have said the dip in RO was most likely the cause of your problems. Just curious....

Was the RO rinse at tank temp or was it cold?? That could cause lots of issues as well.

It was as close to the tank temp that I could get at the time. I had a little heater in the R/O jug for a couple hours up to the rinsing phase. I didn't put a thermometer in the jug but to the touch it felt close to the same as the tank water, maybe a little colder. In hind sight I should have made sure it was the same temp, just like I would have done if I had been rinsing in tank water like I should have been doing.

I have never had a problem with a bayer dip, not even bleaching. its a quick dip and a rinse in tank water.

I had this kind of luck for a long time as well, and then a couple purchases ago I must have missed something on my visual inspection because a couple weeks later I noticed a couple Asterina stars nestled on one area of LR around one of the new frags. [emoji58] I pulled them out immediately and haven't seen any more, yet anyway. I can't be for sure they came in on that frag but I decided I better not depend on my luck anymore. [emoji5]

Oh I do have Asterina stars and lots of them but when I am ready I will put a Harlequin shrimp in display. I feel is our tanks become to sterile then you have bad problems when something happen.

use Bayer all the time I use 10ml bayer to one cup of tank water. I let the frags sit for 10mins swishing them on and off then move them to another container that has tank water in it soak them in the tank water container for another 10 mins swishing on and off then a new fresh container of tank water for another 10 mins swishing the frag on and off. Never R/O water... Never had any issues with any type of frag

Playing with a loaded gun and the safety off you are. My lesson came when a fish carrying brook was set loose in my tank. 48hrs later a $1000 worth of fish had taken a swim down the porcelain god. Not telling you what to do, just saying it will come to an end...
