Dont overdo maintenance tasks
Dont buy on impulse
Log progress ( gives you reference points)
Provide good water quality and diet

DO a better job of logging all info, get a bigger tank

Logging progress is a good one that several people have listed. I usually just sort of fly by the seat of my pants

YES! Log your info in. Trust me it helps. I was all over the place when I didn’t do it. It’s great for tracking and keeping you organized!
