Iv had this knicks torch for a while, its splitting again,. Noticed this time in that plit part of the head not extending much if any? Is that part of how they split?

Tank is 2 years old mixed reef, the torch is a frag rack getting 150-200 par around there last time i tested was doing grear.

Parameters:

Alk:9.2
Cal:410
Mag: was 1290 (increased it between the last few days to 1390)
Phosphate:0.24 (previously 0.36)
Nitrate:3ppm im dosing neo nitro to get it back up to at least 10ppm.

Any idea if thats normal? Or something wrong with it? I heard when they split they do that so not sure

Have you always had this high of a phosphate?
I noticed that some splitting torches tend to not extend all the way when splitting, just make sure they still have a healthy flesh band, if your flesh band is starting to recede, then there is something wrong.

Ever since i started my system 2 years ago, my phosphate was always at the 0.36-0.4 mark. I was able to grow a lot of colonies no issues, but now since i implemented the awc, its starting to drop to 0.24 mark

Just a quick update. Yes the torch was infected, next day, i got the brown residue which im assuming either its a dead polyp, or brown jelly. Either way, i took it out dipped it in iodine, chemiclean, and restor.

However, after cleaning out the dead head, it seems like there was some left over polyps inside the head, and they got that brown residue the next morning after the dip. Do i have to dip again? Or is that just left over dead polyps?

I try not to dip corals it usually just puts the nail in the coffin. I suggest just keeping the tank stable and brining up the nitrate.
Not dipping an infected coral, causes more issues. And possibly hurting other corals.

So if your corals are already not healthy and you have high DOC then yes. But I’ve never had that issue. For example last month I got one of those new branching tiger torches. It was injured from shipping but it sat on my rack with about 7 other torches some touching it. Slowly the tiger melted away until it was just a skeleton.. no other torches affected. Just a small example of many

Is that brown jelly? This is ODD i did a iodine, chemiclean, and restor dip, and i woke up with this. Even though i cleaned the head and i dipped. Is that left over polyp dying? Or brown jelly?

May i suggest you throw away that piece of "coral"?
I had some hammers with BJD & it spread like wildfire.. I took no chances & threw every euphylia with BJD in the bin.
