This is my first build thread, and my first tank I am setting up "patiently". Always in the past I have been too anxious to get it going and rushed everything! So, this time I decided I was going to sit down take my time and do it right. Why not make a build thread to go with it???

My tank should be here Tuesday so I am very excited to get started...

This first post will be my parts used and my aquascaping. This is the first time I set up to aquascape outside of the tank, and I think it paid off!!

Equipment:

Waterbox 130.4 (48x24x22)
Waterbox Sump
RedSea Reefer Skimmer 600
2x Ecotech Radion XR30w Gen 4 Pro
AquaticLife 36" T5 Hybrid ballast and fixture (2x Blue, 2x Coral+ 39watt)
2x Ecotech Vortech MP40wQD
Ecotech Vectra M1 Return Pump
~85 lbs CaribSea Purple Life Rock

NICE! That aquascape looks great. Personally, I would have done one side higher than the other or lowered one of the connecting arches just to provide some asymmetry but overall that is fantastic. I like the 'take my time" approach, it always works out better in the long run. Following along...

Thanks, aquascaping is definitely not my forte, in fact it's the one part of this hobby that frustrates me most! I really wanted to do some asymmetry and still might change it up a bit the best I can. Going for a mainly SPS tank so want a lot of room to play up top. Luckily I have my fiancé here to help and she's much more patient than I am when it comes to stacking rocks!

A simple solution may be just to reposition the left arch o the leftmost part is resting on the plateau you have. Minimal changes for maximum effect?

Thanks!

In my current 30 gallon I have:

2x Gold stripe maroon clowns paired
2x Orchid dotty backs
1 Exquisite Fairy Wrasse
1 Filefish (for my aptaisia)

My plan is to add another beautiful wrasse that can get quite large and a tang! I want some bigger fish now that I finally have a larger tank, but haven't put toooo much thought into the fish yet! I upgraded mainly because I was running out of space for my coral, and my SPS are taking off!

Awesome that’s a beautiful wrasse!

I just upgraded from a 30 gallon cube which was up and killing it for about 7 years! Hope to see some pics of those corals!

Here’s some random pics of corals I have and one of the new cube during setup.

Awesome scape! I can’t wait to see how amazing that Red Sea skimmer is! If I hadn’t just bought the Nyos Quantum 120 I would have been all about that skimmer!

Thanks!!!

My buddy manages the LFS and has one of the Red Sea skimmers running and it sure pulls hard, but the features are what impressed me most with the drainage tube and foam window. I’ll be sure to get some pics when it’s up and running.

nice scape!
what rod did you use? how far did you have to drill in to the rock to get a stable hold? did you use some putty or supper glue after or just the rod?

I did the scape playing around if how I am going to scape my RS 750 .
nice skimmer to BTW I hear great things about them.

oh let us know how your WB 130.4 turns out.

Thanks so much!

As for the scaping tips I used driveway markers from Home Depot. They are made of fiberglass and you get about 3 feet for 3 dollars. Did this whole scape with one marker.

I used jb waterweld on some of the rods because I needed them to be anchored but some are just in there holding tight.

Each rod was roughly 2-4 inches long and depending on where it went I drilled as little as ½” into the rock to an 1”. Some rocks I just drilled the whole way through from top to bottom and into it’s base rock because it was easier and hid the rods well.

Let me know if you have any other questions!
