Yes, that's right....Green Planet ORA Green Planet | Acropora sp. | Oceans, Reefs & Aquariums

So, I know...."Great, another green acro. We don't have enough of these to go around." I'm kinda stoked about this one. A hardy aquacultured table that I think it would look fantastic growing next to it's tankmate, the red planet. Maybe the same species? Grafting experiment anyone?

I also agree... Tabling acroporas are among my favorites, no matter the color.

Post a pic.

Don't let ORA steal your fame!! Lol

I don't think ORA has ever "stole" someone fame. Theirs corals are unique to their colonies. The odds are extremely thin if they are the same species and colors combo and even more unlikely the same strain. ORA's named corals get knocked off more than any other out there. Even if it does look alike the Florida Red Eye would have just a right lineage.

Basically you can have many differentiated Acropora insignus stains (variants) but one would come from ORA and the other FL Red Eye. My 2 cents.

The ORA Green Planet Is pretty sweet but i think people will stick to the Red Planet if they had the choice. From the one picture it does look like the same species. I wish there was a pic of the mother colony.

What exactly are you considering a "strain, or variant?" Are you speaking of the same coral species with a different species of Zooxanthella? Are you talking about hybridization? Are you talking about genetic variation from sexual reproduction?
I think there are more genetically identical corals from different suppliers, named different things, out there than anyone would like to admit.

I was joking obviously...

ORA doesn't just get pieces and release them they keep them captive for years...

But thanks for the heads up lol

I know, I know. I see the opposite effect of this. Too many corals out there with false names tagged on em. The Green Planet looks interesting but I can see the flood of misIDed impostors of these coming, since it is a little more general looking than RP.

When I say "strain" or "variant" I am referring to true lineage. They would be the same species but in some way a different color combo, brought on by many different reasons like those you mentioned.

And yes i agree there are many out there that are genetically identical with several names, Mystic Sunset and Reverse Superman is a good example. I consider those to be two different corals with different lineages because they did come from two different sources. With SPS it is so difficult to determine if they are the exact species, but if it does well in our reef aquariums and gets fragged and distributed often then it becomes a living icon, a named coral based on distinct variation. ORA has done a great job of this.

Haha. Sorry for the start on that. Should've posted better. Ill see if I can't get a good pic and post it simply for resemblence purpose-not at all saying they are the same. ORA does an awsome job with their pieces.
