I have some of the Orphek bars, and love them. I have a thread out here somewhere, as I have used bar-type lights on my reef since 2009 with great success. Any, I digress.... a few comments:

Do you really want 25K? That's pretty blue!

The Reed Daylight bar is apx 18K..... pretty blue on its own.

I like the light, but, if I was going to switch something out, I would remove the red LEDs and replace them with something that gives you the closer-to-25k look that you seek.

I run one length of the Reef Daylight (18k), one length of custom actinic (mix of 430nm & 460 nm), and one length of 12k. The tank overall is still a strong blue overtone. as I playing with sequences for ramping up the lights, running just the 2 Orpheks was waaaay blue.

After working with Orphek, I'm actually going a different route. I think I'll like the ability of having two different spectrums so I can control them separately. With that in mind, the two bars over the frag tank will be one bar of the standard spectrum Reef Day Light and the other will be custom: 12 LEDs each of 430nm, 460nm, and 480nm (not 490nm). This custom bar has a really wide blue band which when combined with the reef day light should give me a color I'm looking for. Once I see the custom bar, I may order a 36 inch to supplement the two Prime HDs over my 40-gallon display so I can run more whites out of the Primes.

This is the layout I am planning on using for my custom build ATM. I modeled it after Orphek, but with less green and teal-green color spectrums.

With as wide angle lens as I can find, and each being 3w leds, as I think you only need 5w for deeper tanks, which after having I do not prefer. Lol

The channel control would be:

Chan 1 (UV/purple)
3x 395
3x 410
4x 420
3x 430

Chan 2 (blue)
4x 440
10x 450

Chan 3 (teal blue)
4x 460
4x 470

Chan 4 (green, red and IR)
2x 660
2x 830
2x 520

Chan 5 (dominant daylight)
8x 20,000

Chan 6 (warm daylight)
4x 10,000
2x 490

Chan 7 (moon lights)
2x 440

Chan 8
fans

What do y'all think?

I am curious about your custom bar.... Just wondering why you specified 480 and specifically not 490? Always looking for more opinions on this stuff. :)

My 2 cents worth - there isn't going to be a huge difference between 480 and 490 nm, but I'd have to see the bandwidth of these 2 LEDs (my guess is that their isn't much, but school me .)
