Ostreopsis Dinoflagellates

Just another Dino question but with ostreopsis, what’s the correct way for manual removal?
Is it counterproductive to last it off the rocks during the day and let the socks catch it?
Secondly I believe I have 5 micron socks, will it make it through my socks to allow it go through my return manifold with UV on it?
I under most people plumb the unit directly to the display. I suppose I can do that but it will be a slight pain to set up.

In addition to the commonly suggested remedies (UV, dose to keep nutrients up, bottle bacteria, silicate dosing, etc.) I recommend buying a roll of aquarium filter floss from Amazon, cutting out large rectangles, and hang inside your tank off the glass with clips. When you blast the Dino’s off the rock, a large amount of Dino’s will resettle on the filter floss. Rinse the filter floss once or twice and day and it should help reduce the population of Dino’s if you have a major outbreak where it is growing everywhere.

I believe that manual remove of Dino's helps, and one way to do it would include hanging an extra filter sock in a five gallon bucket and siphoning off any algae (after you've blasted it with your trusty turkey baster). Let the sock catch the algae, and then just add the water right back to your tank for minimal stress.

You should also check your nitrate and/or phosphate. Many here at R2R site low to zero nutrients as a cause for Dinos to pop up.

I beat it before but aquarium is still new. I’m shocked because 5 days ago I added 20 pounds of TBS sand.

That’s not a bad idea I have plenty of floss. I might try implementing this thank you

Noted. My first round with was out of control before I realized what was happening. I’ve had tbs sand for less than a week but in my head I was never going to see Dino’s again.
I’m watching my phosphate and nitrates currently. I have my UV just plumbed to a manifold but if I see the Dino’s get worse I’m going to install it directly to the display but I’m holding out a few days before I do that, it’s a little bit of work. Yesterday’s WC seemed to fuel it again unfortunately so I might back off and watch my alk. I have AFR on a doser on stand by.

The timing is awful I got a box of 17 frags yesterday from WWC, I felt I was ready to do it again
