FTS - Reef #2 - This tank ran it's first year without out a sump or skimmer. Nitrates slowly worked up to 100. We added a Tunze 9002 in tank skimmer about a month ago and are still bringing nitrates down and manual removal of gha. Last check nitrates were 40+
Cheers! Mark

Be happy to trade, are you looking for anything specific?
Cheers! Mark
I’m looking for a homewrecker and Orange Passion, but I imagine I’d need to trade a lot more to get those, haha. I have other things you don’t have but they aren’t frag-able just yet.

Give me a day or 2 to check out the OP, I would do a straight trade for the OP
Awesome! No rush, I’ll be out of town until just after the new year. Heading to Phoenix then Tahoe for New Years.

Your reef just takes care of itself for that long?
Sort of. ato and dosers. The cat sitter is also going to feed the fish their frozen mysis, dump skimmer cups and top off the ATO containers. My tanks will miss their trace elements and aminos but hopefully they will be fine.

Our cat sitter fed the Gecko food to the reef and Mysis to the Gecko. I ended up getting a youngster ( @Kremis ) from San Mateo to do a drop in mid-way through my week-long trip. He fed the frozen mysis, topped off the ATO and tweezer fed our serpent stars. He is a great kid and has a 200g.
Cheers! Mark

On the first of October my reef quit carbon dosing cold turkey. We were adding 300ml of white vinegar to 5g of R/O to our kalk via the ATO. We had carbon dosed heavily for about 1.5 years. We had no issues when we stopped dosing. I really had no issue with the dosing, just wanted to see how the reef would respond to no carbon. The only real change that I noticed was a drop in DKH from 11 to 8.5.
Now we are going to start adding just a small amount of carbon to our system. After reading a thread on here about bacteria and doing some research, I am going to dose 1 bottle of ZeoBak at 1/2 dosage (and the matching carbon "food") I am thinking that I want a small amount of carbon to be available to the reef to help feed bacterial colonies. I am starting really low with 3ml of vinegar per gallon of R/O. I am also hoping that this will help get my DKH up. Ideally I would like to be at 11-12. This is what my Coral Pro salt mixes at and I would like to hold steady at that point. I currently change 5 gallons a day on my 180g system with 12 DKH water and am at 10 teaspoons of Kalk to 5 gallons of R/O.
Cheers! Mark
