Hi all!
Well, my current tank that I started is my first tank. Having said that, a rather mistake I made was in thinking that a 4.5" deep horizontal overflow with a 1.5" "frag shelf" (that thanks to snails does not work worth a hoot! :) ) would be a stupendous idea! Turns out taking up 6" of my available 12" wasn't a great idea for lights.
So... Here is where you guys come in. I am really wanting a much "slimmer" overflow... the problem is that the silicon will take 24 hours to set... and for that time, most of my tank will have to be down too.
So what should I do? My initial plan was to just drain the tank down just enough to where I can secure a new (premade) overflow, let it cure for 24 hours, and crank everything back up. I would have plenty of flow in the rest of the tank, which would probably be at least 35 to 40 gallons. Do you guys think this would be enough for a royal gramma, coral beauty, and two clowns? Or should I try to take the fish out and put them in the QT just leaving most of the inverts (and also having to take the tank down to get them)?
Or do you guys have any other ideas?
I would REALLY appreciate any input into this. Sorry its so long. The snails do a great job of keeping the overflow clean, but I still hate having half of my tank even partially blocked, especially when I'm planning to invest so much into some good lights.
