If you want to cover it up just to keep stuff from getting in there you could take a small piece of pipe and then put a cap on it don't glue it in in case you ever want to utilize it later on down the road but just cut a small section of pipe push it in there and then push a cap on top of that

I need one that has little grills like what power heads have

Oh you mean up top I'm sorry I thought you meant the open bulkhead on the top of your sump.

Whichever one you think would work best.

I promise you I'm not affiliated with bulk reef supply lol. Just a big fan of theirs and what they offer and do for the reefing community:)

Here’s an example of what I did with the same style sump. Maybe it will help.

Got the plumbing at Lowe’s. And I’ve left one of the holes open for several months...no issues. It was a tall sump for my stand. In order to stuff in the gate valve, I extended the plumbing so that I could also have a disconnect. Slid the sump down a little and ran it to the second hole.

Ha! Its ok they are a great company. This is what I was looking for. I was reading about the gate valve . People say it slows down the rush of water so it does not splash as hard, is that what you meant by back pressure? Also they say if something gets in the hole it can get stuck at the gate but I guess if I have that strainer on it would stop.

Thanks man. Looks like you have that valve open all the way. Do you ever slow it down? How is your noise level? Im debating on spending $35 on the gate valve

If you're located in Michigan you can get all the parts right from bulkreefsupply I'll include a shopping list in this post for you. I assume it's a 1 inch drain.
(2) of these
https://www.bulkreefsupply.com/bulkhead-abs-slip-x-slip-1-7c63a554c36ea63c77723a472b7ca20f.html
One piece of this (I choose orange because I like orange, you may choose another color)
https://www.bulkreefsupply.com/orange-schedule-40-pipe-58.html
2 to 3 of these for easy disassembly and maintenance
https://www.bulkreefsupply.com/schedule-80-union-slip-x-slip-1-4440d927e935e3273252c4be793c9152.html
2 of these

2 of these
https://www.bulkreefsupply.com/sche...-slip-1-5779e947caedd3537d114bf8b0702a15.html
And one of these
https://www.bulkreefsupply.com/spears-gate-valve-slip-x-slip-1-46dfb1fd21d4e16401260f54d2b6a88a.html

I included 90 degree bends and 45 degree bends as it's hard to tell from the picture how much offset there is from your drain to your sump input. I really hope this helps get you started in the right direction :)

Ok, So I got everything I needed. The bulkheads are made out of ABS plastic. I just realized I used PVC primer "the purple stuff" you can't use that on ABS plastic.... The instructions from Marineland says use PVC Cement. Says nothing about the primer. So that said I should prob replace all the bulk heads just incase there will be a problem down the road?

One more question- If i order new bulkheads is it easy to remove them form the pre manufactured maineland overflow? Did they cement them in? I don't know for sure.

I would replace the bulkhead anyway being that you glued pipe into them already, and if you want it to look good I wouldn't combine the new pipe with that old pipe, but that's just my opinion :)

Nope, they should just unthread and pull out like a normal bulkhead. And remember when doing this, dry fit everything before gluing

Use a heat gun to remove cemented pvc. Works like a charm! I've also heated pvc to align 2 pieces.

Awesome! What color pipe did you end up choosing? Keep us posted

I ordered blue ;) Thats my color I got the gate valve. Glad I got it from BRS it was more $ but reviews on amazon from other companies seem like they leak a lot.
