I am looking into getting ozone for my 425G2. I don't use an Apex so I cant hook the ORP to that. Is it still safe to have an Ozo tech without ORP? or should I go with something like the OZAC-PLUS-200 which has a built in display to show the ORP value?

Measuring ORP is prudent when using ozone, especially when starting out until you tune the dose.

I think the second option is better, but I have never used it myself. I have the Ozotech.

Yes. I use the ORP probe that comes with Apex, and I input a setting to turn the unit off if ORP gets too high.

It doesn’t ever get too high because I found the correct dose, but I needed a probe to determine that.

Yeah so since I do not have an apex I need to get one with a display and hook it up to a smart switch to go on and off automatically. The Enaly model comes with an orb sensor but I think I will get it without and buy a better sensor to be 100% accurate. Need to find a good model - Anyone let me know if there are any good ones out there

ORP sensors don’t need to be accurate; it’s for watching trends. Allow the ORP to rise about 30mV above initial reading.

It appears the unit has a set point for ORP, so the smart switch doesn’t seem necessary. Start at the lowest dose and increase it overtime if needed.

The smart switch would be to go on only at a specific time (2am) when nobody is there (Safety) then there is the kill switch if it goes over the said amount. My only query is should I get it with this sensor or go for a better one...

I’d say the need for ORP measurement/control depends on the purpose of the ozone.

So, what is it you aim to achieve using ozone?
If its water clarity, than you don’t need much ozone, you don’t need to run it 24/7 and you can do without ORP control.

For water clarity I ran a Sander Certizon 25 mg/h at 50% for 1 hour a day on my previous 55 gal tank. More ozone did not make a difference.

Yes solely for water clarity so would be just an hour away day probably

I have a Ozotech and use it for water clarity and more important imo is removing the fish/ocean smell from my living room. I have a 600 gallon tank and run it 2 hours at night with the dial at 2 through my skimmer. My ORP probe is downstream of my skimmer and it spikes up 40-50 points during treatment Then dips right back down 20-30 points after it shuts off.

Thoughts overall if ORP is necessary: not really if you only run it an hour or so at a very low setting. Any longer or higher setting is not necessary in my opinion. Tidal gardens did a great video on ozone that's worth a watch.

Then I would say a 200mg device is way too much.
20mg/h for 1 hour is enough for water clarity in a ~400L system.
A 25 or 50mg/h unit tuned down would be my advice.
