I live next to temperate bay in Tasmania and am able to collect a range of fish and shrimp for my zebra lionfish. The most common are:

Species of blenny
Flounder Fry
Galaxia sp. (aka white bait)
Palaemon serrifer (white glove shrimp)

The shrimp are the easiest to catch and are likely to be a staple. I cant find anything on Thiaminase content for this species. Anybody have an idea?

The little guy was confused be the flounder at first but soon realised they're edible.

Sounds good to me. I'm jealous. Palaemon species shrimp is what we all use whether fresh brackish,, or marine. All shrimp does contain thiaminese but also contains vit B1 when live and fresh, and live food will also contain benefits which mitigate the effects. Flounder will be high in protein and a good amount of omega 3. The blenny would be a benthic species similar to gobies, and in the wild they do eat gobies. If Galaxia sp is the same that we call sardines, then they would also be a great food, actually containing a good amount of vit B1.

Thanks LK. Appreciate the response. Sounds like its all good stuff.

Went collecting with my daughter today. Got a good haul of bait fish and shrimp. Lucky to have a few holding tanks to tide us over during bad weather etc.
