I'm planning on getting a new tank, a major upgrade from the 55 gallon second hand tank I bought a year ago to learn the ins and outs. I have an idea and I want to see if its been done before...

Currently, my rocks are just loosely stacked. I have them piled high to get SPS up into the flow and light. My issue is, I'm constantly knocking them over when cleaning the tank, which is, on occasion, borderline catastrophic. I'm wondering, has anyone ever drilled holes into their live rock and sort of pegged them together on the non visible sides between them? I really like the idea of being able to easily pull out rocks for easy pest treatment and fragging. I'm not really sure what to use, maybe just 1/2" pvc pipes cut to maybe 3 or 4 inch sections? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I have a few pieces pinned together with clear acrylic rods that I bought from Amazon.
I also used the acrylic to make "legs" for all of my base rock so that my sand sifting inhabitants can't cause any sort of catastrophic collapse.

You can also use the fiberglass driveway markers cut to whatever length you need. A 48" inch one is less than $5.

People pin, cement, glue them all the time.

I don't. If I did anything I'd strategically pin, but permanent = HEAVY and almost impossible to move.

I try and stack solid and careful, and I have been fortunately thusfar. Nothing in here is glued.

Looks great! I was thinking of just leaving the pegs in the holes I drill without gluing them for future flexibility.
