View attachment 852069 hey guys so i have a platinum percula clown aswell as a 2nd clown that i bought as a regular Percula clown with the intention to pair the two.

They are together in the dt for more than a month without much trouble, still the established one which hosts my rbta still hasnt accepted the new/mated and shares his hide.

I just wanted to get some input if i might have gotten an ocellaris and if so how my chances of the 2 mating up are.

I know i should count their dorsal spines but i failed miserably trying to guess if those are 9,10,11

Especially on my platinum i count like 5-7
My bad obv.

Thanks guys

Turning the light to 100% white will help count spines. If i had to go by eye color, outline and dorsal shape, occelaris.

As long as both are not female, there is a good chance will pair even if it is. They are similar enough and even have been known to do this in the wild.

Watch for aggression, the smaller new clown should act submissive, but not be hiding. Any signs of fin damage i would pull the second clown.

The eye looks like an Occy eye. Can't count the dorsals because of where it goes into the white.

I found his looks to be very much like an occelaris. I was doumb enough to trust my fish store. They got a batch of young ones from what i assumed to be a breeder. A breeder wouldnt mess up species tough...

For aggression i got a smaller one and i know my percula was a male when i got the new one.

They tolerate each other and both are healthy. Im just affraid of them not pairing at all.

Thanks for your answers!

Just as an update: they did not pair in the end. For a few months they just lived side by side and accepted each other. Then i had a bit of a tank issue that made my nem move. The older clown was the one living in the nem but when it moved he lost a dominance fight and the newer one took over his place in the nem. 1-2 days later the new clown kept chasing my older one through the tank. In the end he had nowhere to go and wasin my upper right corner being attacked from underneath. Had findamage and looked close to death. I put him in a fry net and pulled the new clown a day after. Now im back to one clown but im gonna try my luck again in the future. Im planning on adding a picasso percula this time around.
