Glad to have you back, Perry! Adam has some of the best sps out there. I think between him and Tim Herman, you should be covered with great acropora choices. Here’s to a better 2022!
Thank you John!
Yes and yes, both are truly hobbyists! My BC order was pure class! Tim and BigE (Ed) on my list to contact

I'm just wondering where that RMF Acid Trip is Perry! It sure looked good in your old tank.

Hey Tim
I will probably get ASD, pretty much same coral. I have a sunset, but it's definitely not the same strain. I really love millis :) I have 9 different ones, will probably be getting some from Ed(BigE). He has a half dozen that I am very interested in :)

Not sure if I mentioned, but I am back to running mt t5 setup, just works for me. Also, I pulled my sand, so this tank will run bb, and encrusting and lower light sps will have the bottom glass to do their thing.
Tank will run basic, skimming and passive carbon. I put UV back in service to clear out some uglies, and will do so for as long as it takes. I put siporax in sump, in return, before skimmer. Down the line, I will return to using periodic dosing of bacteria, but will likely reboot my bacteria with a waste away treatment, then dose after weely water changes. I have AF and Zeovit supplements that will be used lightly, but going to suspend use until I am confident that uglies are gone. A good indicator will be seeing coraline take off.
Now, the ph thing does intice me, so using kalkwasser at 1 tsp per gallon, used for top off. As corals demand, I will fully saturate for top off, then 2 part from there. I also draw fresh air to skimmer. So, kinda basic. Not much to look at right now, but a fts just for reference.

I like the low pump mounting Perry

Tim,
Tunze 6095, mp40 blowing on bottom. 2 new jeboa pumps(5500gph) set side to side, 30%, at 100% they actually move rocks. I also now use ecotech vectra l1 but can only run 20%, it is super powerful. I believe the key is getting detritus to the sump. For this, I max out all powerheads, and return pump to 60% for a half hour in am, and pm. I call it export mode. During this mode, I also turkey baste rocks. Every 3 days or so, I siphon off 5 gallons of whatever I can. Believe it or not, I am still siphoning sand trapped in rock. I 100% believe the rock is laden with nutrients, especially with bottles of P04 put in last year, lol :)
Cheers

Tools matter, so here are some I use regularly. I mentioned "export mode" that I use twice per day. Powerheads maxed to 100% return pump to 60% from 20%. During this mode I use a baster, then 30 minutes of madness. Yes I spill water over edges, nothing too bad. Every 3 days or so, I have a prepared bucket of replacement saltwater, 5 gallons, to match what I siphon out. I use a toothbrush on rocks, powerheads, return grates, etc. just before water change.

You can see in the pic that maxi-1200 with vacuum, for sump tidiness. I put filter flosh in my 200 mesh sock during this cleaning for finer silt. After, I toss the floss, and rinse the sock with a hose.

I made this siphoning tool, 1/2" rubber tubing attached to 1/2" acrylic tube ordered from amazon, as was tubing. The tube is 24" long, so my arms stay dry, it works a charm. Sometimes I siphon directly to the filter sock, not often, but it's an option.

Looks like your detritus removal game is up to speed. Does that baster have the black squeeze part pop-off often as you are squeezing it under water? If no, which brand is it?
The one I have pops off easily, I actually picked up a plastic hose clamp in my last BRS order just to try putting it on the baster.

Oh man, not sure where the heck I got that baster, I think from Walmart or Target, lol. It comes apart every once in awhile, but does the trick. I may just attach my maxi-jet 1200 to an acric rod with zip ties and use instead of a baster. I am trying to figure out how to keep my hands dry to perform as many maintenance tasks i can. My rock, 3 years later, still gives me fits, altough it's quite mature, its laden with phosphate and nitrate... My overall p04 and n03 are low, I like it that way :) My foxface keeps algae off the rocks, before foxface, I had CRAZY amount of bubble, and hair. When the fish ate everything, in short order, then the biome talked back, lol. This prompted sand removal and high flow, and only sps. Lots of water changes with TMPR salts from Turkey didn't seem to help, lol. Now using RS Blue Bucket and uv, things have improved dramatically!

I did this in the past with a maxi-jet perry - basically ziptied it to a piece of pvc pipe and hooked it up to an extension cord plugged into my apex. Just had to have my computer in close distance to be able to turn it off. Worked like a turkey baster on steroids...I should probably set it up again!

Shoot sorry to hear you were hit by the TMPR bug as well!

Hello Perry, glad to see you are still going! I finally got a tank up and running. Looking forward to getting back in the SPS game but the going will be slow. Started with all dry rock so I will have quite some time before I think the tank will be ready for SPS.

Long time Ed, glad to see you are going to get back in! I should have a good stock of sps ready to cut when your tank is ready. If you start a build, please tag me so I can follow ;)
Cheers
