Hello,
Thanks for the reply. I have been using t5's forever, since 2006. While the results are great, I am wanting to streamline aesthetics. The fan is loud, it gets annoying, especially being in the main living area. The temperature is another factor, as I live in FL. I believe that I will be able to get similar par, and spread, since the structure being lit for acros is only 30"x20". I have wanted to go this route for awhile, just been waiting for the right light for my purpose, the Kessil was my choice, as it mimicks a 250+ watt halide. Time will tell, but at only 60%, and 30% color, with the led bars, visually close to the intensity of t5 unit. Will get some pics soon :)

Jeff,
Oh it happened, getting decent photos will take time, but here's the idea ;)

A few photos that came out good, under only Kessil a500x, @40% color and 60% intensity.
Note: these shadows shown are not there when I crank up 2 reefbars.

Hi Charlie,
I honestly don't know, but @70% others data posted on Kessil a500x thread shows ample par for sps. I am going easy, but based on observation, I am seeing no slow down in growth, and increased coloration. My alk/ca usage already mirrors that of my system with t5's and same reefbars. I have a TSA Bill Murray that's lower in the tank, straight green under my old lights, now seeing orange peeking out. So, my instincts tell me that I am already exceeding my previous lighting system. In all fairness, the sbreefbars are now on the acrylic bracing of my screen top, with a 30 degree tilt inwards. They are 85 watts a piece, and back one at 75%, front one at 90%, no harm, no foul. I already have the color setting where I want with the Kessil, and I will increase by 5%, then wait a week and make observations. I absolutely think the Kessil is a powerful unit, but for me, it would not be enough without supplementation.

Exactly one year ago, I was gifted a round of chunky sps frags. This goes back to my 60 gallon, well documented thread. A few months prior, I watched a few frags die, similar to the ones before them, and had called it quits on acros, even converted the tank to a mangrove softie lagoon. Simply put, I really didn't want these frags, cause I didn't want to go through it again.
Surprisingly, these frags settled in, and a couple weeks later, dang it if they didn't just survive, but were thriving! Well, that meant a redesign of the tank, and adjustments to ensure they thrived. During that rescape, I found this.

So happy 1 year to all those first round frags, most of which are still thriving. Oh, that death of a coral exactly a year later, photo from yesterday.

Looking good Perry. I love the way Kessils shimmer.

Thank you!
I was skeptical, but for a variety of reasons, temperature mainly, glad I did. The shimmer is a really nice touch, my blue bars tame it pretty well, and at 40% color, it mimicks a halide-ish appearance. Seeing good shifts in color as well.

Hi all:
I lost the sps corals back in November 2021. I shared my devastating life loss there, I would rather not discuss here. Anyway, the tank is rebooted and here is how I kicked things off!!!

I am so sorry to hear about all of your losses.
Glad that you’re still in the hobby. That is one heck of an acro list you have there.

Thank you for the kind sentiments!
I currently have 29 acros, and 7 more coming, along with 13 other non acros, lol. I am all in, lol :)

Glad to have you back, Perry! Adam has some of the best sps out there. I think between him and Tim Herman, you should be covered with great acropora choices. Here’s to a better 2022!
