Saw Floyd last year I think in Portland. Was very disappointed. Left before it was over. All political and felt the love for the music was dead. Saw Brit Floyd the year prior and was 100x better than the original. Really wanted to see what the Australian Floyd band had to offer but missed it.

Very cool.......both the rendition and the instrument. I have never seen a harp-guitar before.

I assume you are talking about Water's tour (Floyd hasn't toured in MANY years :().....but yes, it was very political. Actually everything Waters has a part in is very political right down to most of Floyd's biggest hits.

Like most, I can listen to most all of their albums and almost go into another world. The complexity and texture of their work is incredible, yet even the average non musician can appreciate it.

I assume you are talking about Water's tour (Floyd hasn't toured in MANY years :().....but yes, it was very political. Actually everything Waters has a part in is very political right down to most of Floyd's biggest hits.

+1, probably Waters tour. That tour was extremely political.

Waters needs the rest of the band more than they need him, but even Gilmour gets kind of boring without Waters getting under his skin.

I love these hip hop reaction videos on YouTube where they listen to Dogs or DarkSide and are utterly amazed how good this band is.

I appreciate how the band has evolved over the years, but I miss their early work where their songs were more balanced and not just Waters scathing lyrics or another Gilmour solo as epic as they are. Wright and Mason might as well been replaced by session players after Animals.

One can only wonder what would have been if Barret had kept it together and his influence.

I am not sure that is true.....Waters has continued to sell out tours and release albums without the rest of Floyd.....it is Floyd who stopped touring a long time ago. I agree though...they were special when they were all together. Definitely would be interesting to see what Barret would have done. I was never a huge fan of his music though (although I am sure his influence was felt in all PFs music)......he actually released two solo albums after leaving Pink Floyd.

I agree...especially since Waters wrote most of Dark Side, Animals, Etc. I am not sure he would have taken over if Barrett was still there.

About at the 7 minute mark Wright and Gilmour launch into an epic keyboard and black strat duel that I wish would go on forever. Wright's influence on the band was magical, and while Barret is is such a hypothetical topic I insist The Wall would have been a better album if Wright had been allowed to contribute more.

Echoes is such an epic and mysterious yet accessible work of art. While I love the lyrical and thematic genius waters created with the following five concept albums, I always loved their mysterious and abstract earlier work. And echoes and meddle was the pinnacle of that version of the band. I agree with your take on Wright’s contributions to the band. His voice and keyboard layering and composing was absolutely magical. However, I think I remember it being said that after wish you were here and during animals wrights focus left the band and it was because of this waters became irritated and essentially kicked him out. Either way, Wright’s absense on the wall and the final cut is felt.

Thinking of Syd Barret always makes me think of Peter Gabriel. Both left at about the same time... Different reasons, yeah, but both were musical geniuses in their own way.

PF is my second favorite band, Genesis my first. Fortunately PG went on to have a productive solo career .... and G persevered (though I much prefer the Gabriel Genesis). Never liked Barret Floyd. Had he stayed it is quite possible that Gilmour never joins and .... well, who knows LOL.

This concert is played a lot on PBS for some reason.......the whole thing was great :)
