Please help or emerald crab has to go

:ooh: I have always had emerald crabs and never had an issue but today I got two clowns and he is picking on the trying to grab them. What Should I do... they just were put in the tank do you think he will leave them alone

Never trust crabs, they are opportunistic feeders. If they see a coral, fish, etc. that is easy to eat they will try their best to get it.

The bigger emeralds get the more trouble they cause in my experience. I've never had one catch a fish (although I watched a sally lightfoot do it), but they were a terror to my corals once they got some size. I'm done adding them to my tanks. Never again.

I have had bad luck with them also so I try to avoid them.
I currently have a green bubble algae issue so I bought the two smallest emerald crabs I could find . As soon as they eat the bubble algae they are out of the tank .

Well I guess if he keeps trying to swat at them he can be moved to another tank..

Good luck with that - even with bubble algae I wouldn't be surprised if the crab starts munching on coral and whatever else it's crunchy little claws can fit around. I love hermit crabs and never had trouble with them, but the emeralds are a whole different ball game and their claws get pretty big - the males' claws get extremely large for their size.

Hermit crabs kill my snails, and they don't even use the shells. The only crabs I would ever consider are porcelain crabs (filter feeders) and certain species of acro crabs.

Once emerald crabs get big I would take them out, they're great when they're small but once they get larger they attack fish, anemones, corals. Have fun picking him out! They're strong suckers!

I was having a bubble algae problem, so I bought 2 emerald crabs. Im pretty sure one of them ate my Mystery Tye Die baby goo ball. So mad about that.

One of them killed my pipe fish and 10-12 yoda polyps.

Lots of hate for emerald crabs. 6+ years in this hobby and I have yet to see one of my emerald crabs be aggressive towards coral, fish, nems, or my clams. I have had them in a range of sizes as have my reef friends. We all trust our emerald crabs. I'm truly shocked people had had bad experiences with emeralds. I personally try to score a red one and a green one for each of my tanks.

Same here. Had them in tanks for years and have never had a problem and they keep the rocks spotless.

I've seen an emerald body slam a hermit that was trying to eat his food....that's about it here...

The one I had went through all of the bubble algae and every other algae in one night. The next day it ate half of my green slimer (Plucking the polyps out on by one). He was banished to the sump.

Mine would scrape the acros along their sides leaving large bare spots. I had no idea what was wrong with my acros until one day I watched the little sucker come out and start happily scraping the side a stag over and over and over.
