I seen a couple of reef tanks online but I don't know which one to get. Should I get a reef tank with A filtration system on the back system on the back or one with a refugiam?

I'm looking for tank that's above 30 gallon and below a 90 gallon. I'm looking for so if Carl's and LPS

I want a clownfish, blue and yellow tang. That's pretty much it on the fish

@CodyRVA thank you

Really up to you on setup. I have seen both setups work for specific inhabitants people like to keep. I like sump more because it gives me more water volumn and can add more things like reactors. Lesser clutter to see when its under the tank. Also more options in equipments.

Start considering your budget as well. There are a lot of all in one systems with a filtration compartment in the back such as Red Sea and Innovative Marine. With that being said, these systems are typically very costly compared to a basic tank with a sump.

30 - 90 Gallons is a good range to start out in, i started with a 46G Bow Front - no sump, canister filter, and hang on reactors. I'd keep it to one tang, in this case the yellow. The blue hippo will get far too large, you need a 180G system min for these guys. I cant stress research enough, research your butt off long before making any decisions. :)

How is that working for you? And have you had any other tanks without a sump ?
mine is still really really new, its been up for about 30days. but so far i absolutely love it.
I've had a couple tanks with out sumps, 1 successful and 1 with all kinds of issues. it will basically come down to how much effort your willing to put in.
from my experience, a sumpless tank requires a little more attention and maintenance. people may agree or disagree, any tank can be a handful if you don't have a proper care/maintenance schedule.

I think I will get one with a sump. Especially to put pods in there
the overall look is usually a lot cleaner. All your equipment is hidden so you don't have all this stuff in the DT taking away from the fish/coral

Good luck and happy reefing :)
definitely start a thread with progress photos of everything

I would say try a all in one to learn about the hobby that's what I'm doing my next aquarium will be with a sump but you can learn a lot with the all in one go with JBJ or Red Sea has a nice all in one Innovative Marine has horrible customer service my return pump went out 1 month after I got the aquarium and I can't get a replacement even though it under a 1 year warranty I've called and emailed but they want me to make a video showing the pump is broke before they do anything now in this hobby it's expensive so I read that you should call the company of the aquarium you are thinking about buying and see how there customer service is I didn't and now have to replace this pump myself so Red Sea and JBJ are great I've called and talked with them go with them a little more money but well worth it and congrats this is a great hobby

Thank all you guys so much for your input.

@CodyRVA The 46 gallon does it have a filtration system on the back?

No, it had a canister filter. Many folks around here hate them, but I've said it multiple times, if you know how to run a canister, you'll have amazing success. In addition to the canister, I had a HOB protein skimmer, HOB refugium (so if you do want pods you can let them populate there - Keep in mind if you dont have a "pod eater" they will likely over populate your system), HOB GFO/Carbon & Bio Pellet reactor.

+1 @RyanCSGO, sumps definitely provide a cleaner look which is ultimately why I went in that direction. I'm glad i started simple though, I was already overwhelmed with basic tank maintenance and care, livestock choices, etc. I've since incorporated more focus on equipment and setup. If you try fighting multiple fronts all at once up front, it may be overwhelming, but to each their own. Good luck!
