Looking to help identify what is on the back fin of my flame angel, I just noticed about a day or 2 ago. It seems to be getting bigger but other than that, fish is active and eating. Not hiding or scratching on anything. Thanks everyone

Really ? i havent seen any aggression from my clowns, if anything, the flame angel seems to run the tank. I will keep an eye it…thanksThat looks like the bite of the clownfish? A 40 breeder is a very small environment for a pair of clowns and an flame angel to share. It looks like the clownfish have been trying to eat the angel out of their tank.

No parts of the fin are missing from what i can tell, tank mates are as follows: pair of clowns, fire fish, watchman goby and pistol shrimp. Everyone seems to be getting along, if anything, angel seems to run the tank.It doesn't look raised up, else it might by a common viral disease known as Lymphocystis.
Is part of the fin missing? If so, it may have gotten bitten by another animal, who are its tankmates?

I can’t see anything on the clownfish or the watchman goby, what can you see in them that makes you think something widespread is going on?
it sure appears I have something going on…0please let me know what you think and treatment options.
I will attach some pics that i circled the areas. Thank you so much Jay for your time and help!I can’t see anything on the clownfish or the watchman goby, what can you see in them that makes you think something widespread is going on?

Sorry, the pictures just aren't clear enough. I can see the spots on the clownfish now. You should Google Lymphocystis and look at some online images and see if it matches what you are seeing.I will attach some pics that i circled the areas. Thank you so much Jay for your time and help!
Might have to zoom in on them.

So here is the thing - in almost every case, fin erosion like that is caused by some mechanical damage, usually another animal attacking it. However, you don't have any likely candidates for that. Maybe the clownfish? You may never see it happen, clowns are pretty sly. However, flame angels are pretty tough, so that leaves a primary bacterial disease as the next most likely issue. Dosing the whole tank with antibiotics probably is not a good idea. However, I don't know what other options you might have.....

40gal breeder: 2-clowns,1-goby,1-firefish,1-flame angel, 1 -pistol shrimp, 1- bta. No corals.Antibiotics would be the next step I’d say - but dosing your primary tank is risky. What size tank is it and what is the full species list? Do you have a treatment tank you could move the affected fish into?
