I just woke up and found my mandarin sitting on her side. I think she may be choking. I poked her and she started to swim in circles but it didn't look like she could control where she was swimming. I don't think she is going to make it:(
Please help.

She is breathing heavy and not moving very much. She is pretty skinny but I found her at the LFS like that and I wanted to save her. She hasn't gotten much fatter but she hasn't gotten skinnier. I have had here for a couple of months.

She is jerking and it looks like she is trying to spit something out. I really think she may be choking. What can I do?!?

Do you have other fish in the tank? how are they acting? Likely your fish is not choking. It is very hard to choke a fish because they breath through their gills not a windpipe.

My worry would be that your dissolved oxygen is low. do you run a skimmer?

I have a clown and a Pygmy angle. They are both acting normal and neither of them have paid any attention to the mandarin.

Ack I have been there many times , even with rehabed mandys :( they produce toxins when stressed . In shipping they pretty much ingest a lethal dose but it takes time to effect them usually for me about 3 months into being happy and healthy eating pods and getting fat they just slip into "cardiac " mode when they stop swimming and look like they cant breathe out of the 4 or so I have tried to rescue from the stores over time I had 1 live longer than 4-5 months. I hope your buddy makes the turn for the better , I have tried alot of things QT ect .... but nothing ever worked I was gonna try to super aerate the water it was in once but never got the chance to. best of luck

Hopefully they will be able to offer some advice! In the future I'd recommend putting requests for help along these lines in the Fish Disease Treatment and Diagnosis forum. More likely to get help faster!

It's hard to tell from the pictures but sounds to me like it finally starved....you could try putting in QT without much flow so she doesnt have to expend energy but if she wasn't eating frozen or pellet there probably isnt much you can do

I had added pods to the tank and she was swimming around and happy yesterday. She would probably peck at the Rock 6 or 7 times a minute so I know she was getting a lot of pods to eat. I have also been feeding her live BBS once or twice a day.

Sorry, I wasn't really thinking clearly this morning. I was in a huge panic and I still kind of am.

This is very interesting. I can't believe I have never herd this before. Is there any good way to ship mandarins without this happening?

Maybe put her in a qt with live brine and see if that helps. You could make sure she is eating with competing for food. No sure but it might help.
