I am fairly confident that this is a noob question, so here goes...

I am in the process of plumbing a ball valve onto a MagDrive 7 pump to be able to have some control over flow rate through a UV sterilizer - I was thinking that the ball valve needs to be on the outlet, not the inlet - is this correct?
