Plumbing to a basement floor.

Can the return pipes go strait down six or seven feet or should they be angled?
What have you done with yours?

If you bring them straight down, then put a 45, near the bottom to deflect the flow vs letting it cascade directly into the trough. This will quiet it down.

I am worried about flushing up at the overflows as air gets trapped in the pipe. Will this happen or is it not an issue?
