I'm cheap, but not afraid to try something new or hard work. So, I'm wondering if there is any reason why I shouldn't buy a glass table top off of Craigslist (1/4" to 1/2" thick) for $15-$35 and cut it myself for glass baffles and/or a glass tank top?
TIA

No problem as long as it's not tempered.

Never mind. I get it. If it's tempered it's a safety glass, it won't break/cut it'll shatter. Whoops!

So, that means I should get 1/2" rather than 1/4" because it's probably not tempered.

Yup. there are a lot of great videos on you tube that explain how to tell the difference. you just need polarized glass (or 3d glasses) and an LCD screen.

Will the glass be thick enough? I thought it needed to be no less than 1/4" thick. If that's incorrect, heck, I *have* 2 or 3 10g tanks that I don't use. Thanks :-)

I would use at least 1/4". and sand the sharp edges.
