Water movement in a saltwater reef aquarium is important on so many levels so using the right powerheads in the right configuration for your tank is a pretty big deal! That being said there is not a "one size fits all" solution when it comes to the number of powerheads you need, which brands you use or where they should be placed. For the most part anyway. But it should still be interesting to see how many powerheads are members are using!

1. How many powerheads do you have in your saltwater aquarium? (what size tank do you have)

2. Which powerheads are you using?

Have 4 MP40's and 1 MP10 in a five foot 90 gallon. This is the old tank, but the new tank has them in the same location:

On a 30 gallon IM aio, I have 3 basic power heads with an old style red sea wave controller that turns them on and off to alter the flow continuously. I really like the feed mode where it turns off the main pump and skimmer for 30 minutes and leaves one power head on for circulation of the food.

I have read complaints about that controller killing the power heads but haven't had one die yet in 2 years. If it did kill one, the replacement is only $20, so no biggie.

I have thought about upgrading to the newer more expensive ones with the controllers, but as long as this works I don't have a reason to yet!
