Id like to hear peoples opinions on reef tank pred fish.
One of my favorite fish ive ever had was a shadowfin squirrelfish or soldierfish.
Also im a fan of the dwark lions... any others? I need suggestions! Thank you

Like...predator fish that can live in reefs? I think most can...but the problem is more with what they'll end up eating.

Comets look fun and I'd like to try my hand at them eventually.

Anglers/Waspfish/Scorpionfish aren't my cup of tea, but I think they're more of a nano species for some reason. @xxkenny90xx has one I think.

I'd really like to get my hands on a miniatus grouper + the system to house it eventually. If I could get two in order to get a breeding pair that would be amazing.

The same applies to dragon moray eels.

if your tank is 300 g, a cool addition could be an emperor snapper. they rose in popularity due to youtubers but they do grow big and will eat any fish that can fit in its mouth. reef safe but it might eat fish.

Trigger fish are awesome predators to have in a reef tank. Contrary to what people say that they are not reef safe they really are. Ive got 5 in my reef tank, a Clown, Assasi, Bluline, Niger and a Pink tail. I have a mixed reef with alot of different types of coral dominated by sps that are mostly acros. They don't view any types of the corals in my tank as a food source. Triggers have been my favorite fish since I got into this hobby 35 years ago, and I've had all kinds of Triggers in every tank I've ever had.

@HB AL do you have snails in your tank at all? That's the only thing that keeps me from putting my triggers into my 300 DT. Right now I've got a humu and Assasi in my 75 lagoon which is pretty loaded with corals... and they don't touch anything.

Yes I have snails and hermits, they are smart, since they saw there first trigger roaming they have become nocturnal and never come out when the lights are on. They really seem to ignore the snails probably because I keep them well fed.

Very cool! I should add a bunch of hermits to my lagoon and see how they do. Would have to be red legs or something similar in size (not blue leg) to give them a real chance.

Ya most of mine are red legs. As long as they have good rocks to hide in during the lights on period they will be fine but of course the not so smart ones will become meals but they keep the triggers entertained.
