I have been looking and researching info here for about 2 years now and never made an account.
Well after losing my father-in-law in March I am now fully in charge of our 140 gallon DT/60 gallon sump set up.
It’s a fish tank without any live corals
After tons of research and countless water changes in the last 2-3 month the tank is on its way to being a true display tank again.
Luckily we have lots of experience with water being “pool guys” and understanding how to balance out and regulate parameters
Btw Dory has been around for 24 year and has lived threw:
a split seam on the old tank… drained all the way down other than 1-2 inches of water over night. She just laid on her side
A chiller going out on vacation and the water going up to 103

You have come to the right place my friend, welcome!

Greetings and Welcome to our collective obsession.

So you inherited a tank. Thank you for taking on the responsibility. It's a good thing you were studying. I plan on having a tank until I pass. I'm gonna teach my daughter everything I know in an effort to make said transition easier. I'm really sorry for your loss. It sucks. My Dad just passed so I feel ya. Keep up the great work.

Some of you may be interested to see the results of my father-in-laws tank.

After about 7 months of rehab, it is doing great.
Parameters are all with in line to finally keep some nice torches and frog spawns.

The Zoas I add are also growing extremely fast. Started off as 3-4 polyps and are currently growing off the glued in frags onto the near hair algae free rocks.

I have reached out for advice a few times but have used tons of posts from so many of you to further develop this tank into a true piece of art that me, my family and friends all enjoy once again.

I have used the same sump but made it work changing the second bio ball chamber into a little fuge and bio pellet station for some extra insurance against nitrate spike while we leave for week long trips and have care takers over feed.
Also added a much nicer skimmer that produces some of the best skim mate.

And yes Dory is still a live and well with nearly a full blue face again. She even enjoys the company of our “Heni” and the recently add baby shoulder tang.

naturally my phone camera doesn’t do the clear water justice and the nice pop of the very happy and fleshy corals.

Hello and Welcome to R2R! My Dori is about 10 years old. A couple of years ago I did the tank transfer method and Dori is now timid. I'm hoping that will change but really enjoy watching her from the couch.
