That's a ton of lux! I do need more light but luckily the tank is by a window so I can open up the blinds for a few hours each day to hit the backsides with a little more light. Ever take the meter outside? Wow, makes you realize how dim tanks really are.
When I first started out I just threw stuff in the that I liked at the time. Corals and Fish included. Now I have two oddball tanks, so to speak. I'd like my main one primarily sps eventually. I've had to move my LPS to the frag tank because of the leathers and toxins. Running Carbon doesn't seem to matter either. On top of that anything with polyps such as Zoe's get scarfed up by my fox face, and My 16" eel is a pollution factory. So my boss is tired of maintaining his 110 at home and is getting ready to bring it to work for me to help maintain. At that point I'll move stuff around here to there and vice versa now that I have a good understanding of what each things need. Not really looking forward to dealing with 3 tanks, but at least it will give me more diversity.
But as far as light I can't blast my softies with sps type par anyway. It's too shallow of a tank for sps and softies together really. When I was running my second light on both channels things were bleaching.
I keeping thinking with newer technology LEDs will drive down the old Radions in price to a more reasonable level but that doesn't seem to be the case. The newer stuff just goes up in price. If it wasn't such an eye sore I'd even consider hallides. But this is what I have to work with for the time being. Just trying to make the best of it.
What lux are you getting at the sand bed?
