I moved 2 test colonies from my frag system to my main display. After about a week the Green Slimer started showing decreased polyp extension and tips going from bluish white to reddish brown. Is this an algae problem bacterial or pest. I also put a thriving colony of purple poccillipora as it was another pretty tough coral and all the flesh has peeled. This tank had a bloom of sandbed Dino’s for the last 7 months but they are basically beat back and now just a medium diatom bloom. Frag tank45 gallon total system Alk 8.3 Calcium 425 Mag 1400 phosphate 0.0 and Nit 5.5-5.0 but dosing ammonium bicarbonate 3-5 ml per day and5-8 drops of NeoPhos just to have some available. Got an ICP readout 2 weeks ago with no major issues on either tank and very similar readings.

Main tank 460 gallon total water volume Alk 8.7 Cal 430 Mag 1385 Nitrate 5.0 to 6.5 and Phos from 0.021 to 0.064.

The frag system is fishless and the main has 7 large tangs, a Bangaii Cardinal, a Firefish, a Melanurus Wrasse, a pair of Ocellaris, and a pair of Aiptasia eating Filefish. IMG_4191.jpeg

Hard to tell from that photo but I’m not sure that’s slimer? Appears to be another species that has pinkish tips.

Is it getting the same amount of light? It looks like it's on the bottom of the tank. What else do you dose? How often are WC's? Post the ICP results as that might help pinpoint. Reddish brown tips could point to cyano/algae growing on the dead flesh.

The 0.0 PO4 in the frag system is definitely a concern and could very well point to shocking the large colonies when they move between the tanks.

In the frag system it was about 325 and in the main it is about 290 PAR. It seemed to do real well for maybe almost a week and then a slow decline. Will Aiptasia Filefish pick at stony coral I know they will eat zoas and softies? I dose 15 mls of Vodka to the main and no vodka in the frag system. Since it is fishless nutrients really aren’t a problem. Frag system gets Oyster Feast on Tuesdays and Reef Roids on Fridays. These were test colonies of tough corals to see if the tank would support them. I have about thirty nice higher end frags that are encrusted and some already moved on to 2” discs ready to move but this is making me hesitate.
