I’ve had my Purple Stylo for over a year. They were doing great until a couple of months ago. Now they are shrinking and losing tissue. Can someone help me figure out why?

Tank history: Dino outbreak in Feb. irradicated them and they had green algae bloom (from dosing Phos and Nitrates). Tank recovered. This is pic from May

About time I noticed SPS (Stylo and Monti cap) were “off” I got a cyano outbreak. Still fighting that (it’s getting better) but now stylos are dying:

Parameters:
SG: .025
P: .03
N: 10-15
Alk: 7.6-8.4 (trying to stabilize to 8.4
Ca: 440
Calcium got up to 470 (from 400) around when this started. Not sure how.. been dosing Kalk the same amt for a year now. Been trying to slowly bring it down

I had also started dosing Microbacter, again, after water changes (according to bottle directions). This seemed to correspond to SPS issues too

No change to light or flow.

That’s a really hardy coral so something has to be off for that to happen. Those parm’s aren’t bad at all. Double check your salinity/calibrate again.

Just did (thanks for the tip) and it is good.
I often have issues around this time of year and my LFS thinks they do something with the local water supply to cause havoc. I’m disinfecting my RODI holding bin (garbage can) in case something bacterial is going on.. which is what I suspect

I’ve had residences with well water and city water (present). Many municipalities switch between chlorine and chloramine to treat the water. With the later you must “catalytic “ carbon to remove the chloramine, run of the mill carbon filters will NOT remove chloramine that can then build up in your closed system. Run some carbon in your tank for a couple of days too, regardless.

When I see tanks with "issues" like this, see hair algae everywhere, it always makes me wonder about their source water and how good the water they're making for their tanks are. People dont realize about the chloramine issues...

Thanks to both of you! I agree that it is either something w the city water or some type of microbe that was introduced or took over. I always run carbon and use RODI from my 5 stage BRS system. That being said.. I’ve had weird seasonal issues around this time of year. Will focus on these two things to try to save my SPS
