So I have 4 fish in my QT. Firefish, Flame Hawkfish, Clown Goby, and Possum Wrasse. Today was first full day of copper. Tank is at 2.40ppm right now. I took two days to reach therapeutic levels. I’m actually quite proud of myself as last time I took 10 days. I was being overly cautious but I now understand the need to be quicker. Anyway, all fish are eating frozen mysis. The possum wrasse has not had the greatest color and he also has something going on with his eye. His eye is somewhat cloudy and it’s bubbled. I wouldn’t call it popeyed though. Some skin is also peeling above the eye. I have Metroplex and Kanaplex on hand and it was suggested I dose these on top of the copper. The Metroplex says 1 level scoop for 10 gallons. My qt is 9.5-gallons. Can I dose the level scoop? Also, Kanaplex says 1 level scoop for 5-gallons. Can I dose 2 scoops in my 9.5-gallons?

Here is a video that shows the flapping skin above the eye and a bunch of photos.

This May be a scratch or bacterial infection. Not sure about kanaplex and eye issue but being likely bacterial, may work
My preference would be Maracyn 1/Maracyn which is ethromyacin but would not mix with copper

As @vetteguy53081 said, That does look like an injury. Maracyn 1 /Erythromycin could help, but these often heal on their own.
I would not dose metroplex, it overlaps with copper, and can add unneeded stress to the whole process.
You’ll want to treat with praziquantel at some point for flukes.

One additional comment - The 'rush' with increasing copper dosing relates to treating an illness - let's say an extremely sick fish with velvet. Otherwise, ramping up copper over a few days (less than 10 though:)) is not a problem IMHO

So the Possum Wrasse is like a whole new fish. I did a total of 5 doses of Metroplex and Kanaplex with each dose being 48 hours apart. The bubble cloudy eye is completely gone. The eye is bright and vibrant. I figure it was bacterial in nature.

Did you do metro and kana during copper or after?

Water dosed. My qt was 10 gallons with about 9.5 gallons of water. 1 scoops metro and 2 scoops Kana is what I did.
Ok. I'm reading reports that oral is better but hard to get the fish to eat it if you used the right amount. So I guess I'll just dose to the water.

Did you run carbon or anything like that to remove the medication after each 48 hours? Or did you just readd more and only did waterchanges to control ammonia?

Sorry for the questions, this is my first time trying to QT and I want to make sure I don't kill my fish by a stupid mistake

I never run carbon in qt. The only thing in my HoB is bio media (ceramic Maxspect balls from my display) and the coarse sponge that came with the Tidal filter.

every 48 hours I did the next dose of Kana and Metro. If it was time to do a water change or I felt the tank needed one I did it before a next dose and I made sure my water change water matched the level of copper in the tank. Then I did the change and then the next dose of Metro and Kana.

it’s very important that your copper level doesn’t drop due to a water change.

Yeah I premeasure how much I take out then dose the new water before I pour it in. Think I should try oral first by food soaking?

If it’s an eye issue I think dosing the water is best, but I’m not the expert. When I medicate food, I also add garlic to it to entice the fish.

Hey this may sound like a stupid question and very off topic but once I have my quarantine to 2.5 PPM of copper and I go to do a 1 gallon water change, I should pre-dose the new gallon to 2.5 PPM right?

Yes, you should. However, dosing one gallon of copper power or coppersafe requires an accurate measuring device - a syringe with no needle for example. A pipette can also be used. Counting drops or measuring in a spoon is not accurate enough.

For example, for coppersafe, the dose is 1.25 ml per one gallon.

I have a hanna checker.

So if I remove one gallon of water, I shoud dose the new gallon with 1.25ml to achieve 2.5ppm? Sounds good. I have a two stage pipette and glass graduated cylinders that I can accurately measure with.

Jay, you are a godsend. Thank you for your work on this website.
