Hello everyone!
So I have a 20 gallon tank that just finished cycling. I used the dr tims one and only and ammonia method. Currently my tank will process 2ppm ammonia over night to zero and nitrite! Now I am getting a fish today and it will be my first time QT which I am a little nervous about.
1. Can I use the marine pure spheres I have in my sump from my DT to seed my qt tank? I Know I won't be able to reuse them and will have to remove them once I start treatment.
2. What do I do to keep the bacteria alive in my DT tank while my fish is in qt since there won't be anything in it. do I just keep adding Ammonia? It's converting the Ammonia every day to zero but it seems like a lot to add it everyday??
3. And if anyone has some general qt beginner friendly advice id love it. I live in NYC in an apt so the whole tank transfer thing doesn't work for me I can't have 3 tanks in my room lol. I was gunna treat with prazi pro and then copper

1. If a qt will process 2ppm, then I don’t think you need marine pure. Sounds like the bacteria has colonized the tank walls or whatever else you may have in the tank.

2. Add a bit of fish food every once in a while. Nitrifying bacteria is very resilient and can go on without food for a while.

3. I hear you lol, joys of apt living :) be patient with qt, get Hanna copper checker, make sure to have good flow in the tank as almost all meds we use deplete O2 very fast.

I wouldn’t use marinepure in a QT. You’ll have to throw it out as soon as you start medicating. Get a bottle of biospira and add. Just make sure again to have good surface agitation especially if you will be adding fish soon after bacteria.
