I’m planning to purchase some more macroalgae for my tank, and after dealing with ich recently, I really want to quarantine them this time. Going through a 15-week fallow period was rough, and I don’t want to take any chances again.

I have a smaller 2-gallon tank that I think could work as a quarantine setup for some nice macro frags. My question is: would I need to add external heat or circulation to that tank, or could it be okay at room temperature if I provide all the nutrients the macro needs? Also, how long should I ideally quarantine macroalgae before introducing them to the display tank?

How cold is your house in Swedan during the summer. What specific macro are you considering?

Here is Austin, Tx I would not consider the added complication of a heater. I would get an air bubbler and a light.

Here in my house in Sweden room temperature is between 20-22 Celsius, that’s around 68-71,5 F. But in the middle of the summer it will definitely be a little warmer. Would you recon that it will work?

Go for the Gusto!

Most macros prefer cooler temperatures and will not thrive well at elevated temperatures. I run my systems between 75-77. When I grew macro & live rock in 10KG greenhouse mariculture system, heat was added when system < 60 degrees F.
