QT tank without fish

Hey all, anyone know how I can put my 10g quarantine tank with a sponge filter on pause if I don’t get fish for a few months?

Well it takes like a month to start back up

Drain it, sanitize it, and add a brand new sponge to your display system so it's seeded for the next time you need your QT tank.

Or, simply add some fish food to your running tank periodically to keep it conditioned for future fish.

Don’t need to do anything. Just keep the circulation and top off in operation, shut off the light and it will be good next time you get new fish.

Just keep a small mesh bag with ceramic bio-media (Fluval Biomax, Seachem Matrix, Maxspect Biospheres, generic bulk ceramic bio-rings from Amazon, etc.) in the sump of your DT for a 2-3 weeks (or longer).

That will let you setup our QT in just 24 hours...
- fill the QT tank
- let the heater bring it to temp for day
- drop mesh bag from your DT into the hob of your QT (or in QT tank in the flow of a power head)

... and your good to go.

Way easier than trying to keep a QT running empty for a month.

Plus, it give you the opportunity clean the QT out when you empty it.

When you do empty, just toss the used biomedia ... or clean it, dry it out good to sterilize it, along with the mesh bag ... then re-used it.
