So when you buy chaeto algae, should you quarantine or what? I'm getting some and was just wondering what, if any precautions should be taken before adding it to your system.

If you wanted to be safe you could QT it but I've never read of anyone getting something bad from it. You could also give it a quick FW dip to clean it out but you would probably clear out any pods that were in it.

I've heard a few doing it in a small clear container without flow. Basically trying to see what creeps out or if their is aiptasia within it. I personally don't but have found aiptasia in mine.

Since I am having to redo my display due to hydroids, which definitely can come in on algae, I would. I am still working on how to quarantine/dip things like algae however other than putting it in a QT and hoping nothing comes in on it.

I have no real idea on what's safe but couldn't you bayer dip it? And than Rodi dip after. I don't think bayer would harm cheato since it has no nervous system. But like I said I have no idea what's safe. Worst thing that could happen is u kill 5 bucks worth of cheato

I brought a big chunk home from a frag swap and threw it in my QT and noticed a week later that it was full of flatworms.

Dip it!! Just like you would corals. I ordered a chaeto/pod pack. Didn't dip the chaeto. 2wks later I'm seeing Glass Anemones and my tank is loaded with Digitate Hydroids. QT IMO not necessary if you dip it.

The only dip I have is the bayer dip, would that work?

I would rinse heavily after dip. That's the only part that always scares me is getting bayer residue in my tank and killing my inverts.

Could we get an update? =)_
Haha well I don't have the algae anymore but the dip got some stuff off, I do not think there were any pests in the algae, also if you consider the way the algae grows in a ball, it would trap any kind of pest inside and unless it killed the dip would be ineffective

Did you get rid of it because it eventually died or just didn't go with the macro route?

Thanks for the reply!
