I just purchased a toadstool leather from my LFS. It isnt attached to anything and I plan to use the rubber band method.

Should I snip off the very bottom of my frag and create a fresh wound? Or just let that go and let it attach it's stump?

Believe it or not, I “used” to know the answer. Lol. A lot of good that does you now, right. I believe either will work, as long as there is sufficient contact between the coral and the rock you are attaching to. (Are you going with rubber bands?) I think a fresh cut would speed things up a bit. If I remember correctly as well, you are supposed to cut straight/flat, not at an angle like you do with flowers. Let’s see what someone else has to say. Best wishes!

Apply as is. No need to make a new cut. That would be flowers. LOL

Yes, it will often looked shriveled and beat up for several days afterwards, but if your water quality, lighting, and flow are at least decent, it should bounce back nicely.

Cool. Thanks. I do see PE today shortly after lights on, and I have it in the bottom back corner under a circ. pump, so it should be getting a constant gentle flow and not too much light until it's had time to acclimate and attach.

So, all was well last night before lights out, and this am, this is what I found. :(

I don't have any glue, and my epoxy was so old it dried up, so what do I do now? I'm concerned about using a nylon over it because of its PE. Or would it be ok? And also, since there is some flesh still on the rock, I think I should leave that be, in the hope for new leathers? Should I go to my lfs and get something like glue or new epoxy?

How about Plan B? This is a nori clip, holding a small plastic Dixie cupCould you put some small pieces of rock rubble in the bottom of the cup and drop your leather in and just let it hang out there for a week or so until it attaches to a piece of rock? Then you would have something to glue onto (the piece of rubble) in your DT.

So I ended up just putting 2 more "weaker" rubber bands over the pieces of the stump. It split into two parts from the pressure of the toothpick and that rubber band. I was afraid it might have been too tight, because I had seen some other people complaining about that. So anyway, here's a picture of what I did. The polyps were out for a while today, after I was done monkeying around with it. This picture was taken after lights out, so it's small.

How long should it take for mushrooms to attach to a rock? I have them held down on a rock with a piece of nylon, and was wondering how long I should leave it there?

Great suggestion! I have done something similar with other soft corals. I used one of those cheap plastic containers you can get in the grocery store and poked holes in it, added some rock rubble and just put the coral down in the bottom. It should attach to a piece of rubble fairly quickly, which you can glue to a permanent spot in your tank. I have done this with ricordea mushrooms, which are impossible to glue to anything because of the slime!

Ok. Thanks for the reply! I'm just concerned about the flow in my tank blowing things around. I got some new ricordea mushrooms from @SandJ this past Thursday, and of course I can't wait to see them under the blues!

They really want to grab something. Its usually really quick. I've propped them up on the sand. When they grab onto the sand. The fresh cut grabs the sand than glue them to plugs or rocks.
