Good morning everyone!
I hope you are all doing well!
I have been reading on this forum for some time now, and finally decided to make an account and join an awesome group of reefers.
Im Marc from Switzerland, and i got my first tank 10 years ago. Freshwater, and its still standing strong in my living room. Never had any trouble with it, but i always knew i wanted a reef tank.
So 5 years ago i got myself a Red Sea Reefer 425L.
I read up a bit on reefkeeping before the purchase, but i still massively underestimated the time and effort that goes into it.
I guess i added corals and fish too early during the cycle, and while i was already stocking up, there came the ugly phase. Lost my Zoas to the algae (every other stock is still alive and well now) and couldnt get rid of it.
This quite demotivated me, since i realized i had a lot of catching up to do and that i dont really know anything.
It was a bit on and off from there, until i went abroad for a year. Coming back full of motivation last year.
Spent hours cleaning all the algae, changing substrates, experimenting with lights and waterflow and rock structures.
Now it looks better, water parameters are good, just annoying macro algae in my display that i couldnt shake yet.
Found this forum and started to read up on it, starting on the basic chemistry, coral care, water flows and lighting.
Im looking forward to learn more and share my interest with you guys!
