Anyone gotten a Quoyi recently? I’m very tempted to try. My reading makes it sound like it could be a pretty short term fish, but Marine Collectors told me they’ve seen pretty good long term success with them. Any opinions?

I have had one from Marine Collectors for 3 years. Mine is pretty large, needs lots of food (meaty and herbivore preparations), and tons of swimming room. Very cool fish and is housed with tangs, basslets, anthias, large and dwarf angels.

These fish are hit and miss especially when shipped and some eat then suddenly shut down

I think I'm gonna give it a whirl one of these days. I think they are beautiful fish and pretty unique. Not one of the typical "show fish" in the hobby.

Did you notice him ever eating corals? Specifically, acros?

I’ve had mine over 3 years. He’s a big guy but super friendly with tank mates. I have quite a few SPS as well as clams, Euphyllia, and zoa’s with no issues.

I've had mine for about a year. Mine must be a female as the colors are pretty subdued and don't think she will change to a male unless i get another one. It's a great fish though - doesn't bother my corals (softies, sps, lps) and is plays well with others (yellow tang, rabbit fish, dwarf angel and a few others). My tank is 180g and just big enough as she definitely is an aggressive swimmer. Eats a ton as well. Nibbles the rocks a bit but leaves the coral alone. I've heard reef safe is a bit hit or miss with these fish.

What about other parrotfish species ,like the princess. Are they less sensitive?

That's what I decided. So far so good. It's a beautiful fish. Eats like a pig, swims all the time, picks at algae too. I like that you don't see it much in the hobby either. Kind of a unique fish.

Im glad your experience was good after a detailed qt setup and about 1500$ worth of products to run a ozone reactor I conversed with the team at marine collecters and decided that I had a proper set up for an Achilles so far praise be to The lord I’ve now got a show size Achilles eating selcon soaked nori twice a day so they definitely know how to help you pick what’s right

I got mine in July. It took about a week to get it eating, but now it eats like a pig. Everything from pellets, nori, clams, and my frozen food mix. It constantly picks at the rocks and back wall of the aquarium 24/7. Doesn't touch lps, sps, or softies at all. I've heard that they can lose some color as they get older, but so far mine seems to be holding on.

Parrot fish usually make a mucus cocoon around themselves at night and sleep in a rock crevice.

I have had 3. They all died for almost 0 reason. The first one I had in a smaller tank than it should have been in but was fine. He ate perfectly no issues and he was amazing. I added a pair of faiey wrasse of some sort and he did not like them. I don’t remember what happened but those 2 died not to the parrotfish and not the aggression either the aggression stopped a week prior to their death. When the new tank was being made he just sat on the sand bed and didn’t redo much and he was just like that for a couple days and then one day I went down to go check on him and he was like going crazy on the sand and Sam was going everywhere and I think it was a heart attack or something I don’t know what it was but then he died. The second one was a much much bigger one and he was fine. He was in my predator tank and one day he just was at the one of the sides of the tanks and my grouper was being a bit aggressive towards him. Nothing bad so I call my face shop and I went outside and then went back in. I couldn’t find them and I had flopping come out from the back of the tank and we got him and then he survived for a bit. He wasn’t in the best shape and then a bit later he died and then the third one I had the best success with however one day he just died nowhere no context at all. I would agree that they are a short term that I would. I am going to try one again because of how nice they are. They are very very very good. Algea eater and they are peaceful for the most part and they are fully reef safe.
