R2R Fresh Water???

It would be neat if there was a freshwater section that was completely different than the saltwater. You click a button on the website and it would turn into freshwater themed. This would allow those who don’t like fresh water to not see it and vice versa.

This is how the BRS website now works, you click a button and go to "BRS Fresh", everything turns green, and then you get offered driftwood for sale lol!

I think one of the reasons R2R does so well is because it focuses on the Reef Tank.

I get it's a niche, and that's part it R2R's success, but this forum is huge now, I think there's room for just a small section discussing freshwater tanks. As others have said, most of us still have a freshwater tank, and I see new members asking about freshwater tanks frequently enough that I think a section discussing freshwater would be beneficial.

I mean freshwater saltwater there's a place for both. If you can attract fishlore folk to a freshwater section you essentially have the best forum for both. Also as a freshwater hobbiest logs send them to the salt side 1st. Poof new saltwater aquariums popping up.

I think the main concern was that people did not want their R2R feeds mixed with salt and/or freshwater, which is valid, in my personal opinion. If (and that is a huge if; this is not a hint or tease in any form of the word, lol) R2R would have these two sections entirely separated.

But how hard would it be to keep the salt and fresh stuff separate for those that want it that way? I mean, if there was just a small subforum for freshwater, and a user was not subscribed to that subforum, they wouldn't get those notifications in their feed.

And again, my original post was really about the "R2R Fresh" theme selection I noticed in my account settings (see the pic in my first post here). I didn't make that up lol! @AlyciaMarie Do you have any insight as to what that is or does?

Oh yeah, of course! Members and staff alike have talked about it several times. Unfortunately, I don't know much about the current feature, and quite frankly, I didn't know it existed either. :face-with-tears-of-joy: I was just giving my two cents. I don't think it's a bad idea at all; that was just one of the main concerns that members have expressed when the topic has come up in the past.

I'm not too shabby freshwater since I kept my goldfish alive for two years. That's impressive for a goldfish's life, right? :face-with-monocle: I won it at a county fair! :winking-face-with-tongue:

Don't get me wrong; I certainly would benefit from a fresh water sub forum here on R2R.

I want to set up a guppy tank as a tribute to my Dad. He loved Guppies and had tanks of them when I was a boy. He particularly enjoyed breeding them.

All I really want is a place to discuss freshwater occasionally, and I like it here, and I like how "modern" this site is. I am a member of The Planted Tank forum, but I never post. It just seems so "old-fashioned" some how... Maybe that only makes sense to me lol!

Same with a Cichlid forum I joined. I asked one question, I took a lot of flack for referring to my Central American Cichlids as South American Cichlids, but didn't really get much help.

I just like R2R I guess :)

One advantage I have always found with Reef2Reef is that it feels modern. It doesn't feel like a forum site set up in the old days of the Internet, or one made using a Godaddy website template, haha.
