If this doesn't belong here, feel free to delete.

PAR Meter: Apogee MQ-510 with a white sensor
Light: Popbloom Turing 75
Tank Dimensions: 36"x15"x13"
Channel Breakdown Below:
1562046834046_0-jpg.1752943

Distance between light and water surface: 7.5"
Depth of Water: 12"
Powerheads: Off
No other lights on away from window

I have the channels at lower percentages as well, figured I wouldn't spam this thread with that though.

Thanks for posting this is helpful. Do you have any idea what the par would be at 18 inches if you were running 2 of these?

I finally got the par meter for R2R Supporters and got to take some par measurements of my tank!

Light setup is 2 MarsAqua 165W lights with all lenses removed and modded to be controlled by ReefPi.

My current lighting schedule is 12 hours of 100% blue with 5 hours of 50% white with ramp-ups and ramp-downs.

Average par in the tank is 145 in the blue and 221 in the white & blue.

Picture below is with par values in white for blue and in red for white & blue.

1571000966503.png
I have 125 gal tall tank with (3) mars aqua lights with lens removed, 10" above my water and top of rocks are 9" from water surface. Right now my blues are 70% and whites are 30%. Running my lights 8 hrs total with blue 8 hrs and white 6 hrs. I don't have a par meter so I'm looking at your par to get an idea.
How did you mod your lights with reefpi?
How high are your lights?
Any help be appreciated. Thanks.

I believe this adds to this post.

I’ve been fighting for the best LED illumination on this tank. At first it was not so SPS ready and too crouded. On 2020 I completelly rebuilt my aquascape to get a clean look and went more to the SPS (Dark side, or is it “bright” side?).

So this is an overview of the course over around 3 years.

- 2 primes for entire tank
- then 1 Hydra 64HD for the SPS side (also added MP40 for better flow), but I started losing some LPS and burning the tips of my SPS
- recently added diffusers to the lights for better uniform coverage and with that reduced my overall PAR

Don’t mind the corals I removed. Most were just given to friends, and not died (but I did lose some fancy SPS).

Those are the PAR maps during all this change:

brand new lights, setup ay 100% on all 4 channels. (PUR show 74% on seneye)
-installed 8 inches above water line.

Hello all!
I just wanted to share my most recent PAR measurements I did on the stock BioCube 32g LED lights. To make it simple I made a video on it and was able to see upwards of 300 PAR under all three channels at the highest intensity of the day, using the Seneye Reef:

Hey Y'all,

I made a post then realized this database existed so I am adding to it.... I used the BRS Apogee MQ-510 PAR meter ... here is my original post.

I rented a par meter from BRS and did my par mapping today. I thought I would share my results. The entire process was very easy. It took about an hour to get a pretty detailed map and then 30 minutes to process my data.

Tank: Red Sea Reefer 250
Lights: 2 Red Sea LED 90s on red sea mounts

This is my tank. My aqua scaping consists of 2 main rocks with platforms about 1/2 and 2/3 of the way to the top of the water level respectively and bases below them. 3 rocks interspersed in the sand and then 4 rocks I used magnets to mount to the back. Here is a picture:
1614997759377.png

I snapped this picture then created a washed out image and printed it so I could make an easy map. I took some calibration measurements at a spot I could easily repeat locating the sensor. In my case I chose the front right corner of the sump return. I took readings just below the top of the water level at 100% blue 100% white then 50% white 50% blue and a combo of blue and white at both intensities to verify that the par readings were scalable and additive. They checked out, red sea did well in their light calibration!

After that I made my map by measuring at my chosen locations with 100% blue then 100% white.

1614998117546.png

I recorded each reading in a spreadsheet then averaged them by zone. Once that was done I input my lighting schedule values so I could take a weighted average of the par levels for each period (I fudged it a little, I only did 3 periods...average under the curve blah blah close enough). After that I could divide by my total lighting period to get the average par for each zone for the day.

Schedule:

Calculations:
1614998590125.png

1614998621394.png

Turns out I didn't do half bad! I set it up to put acros on top and a variety of softies and LPS along the lower rocks and a zoa garden in the middle. My par levels support that plan reasonably well.

I had a few surprises. 1. light reflects off the tank walls way more than I thought. 2. shadow areas that are obvious to the naked eye have next to 0 par readings, can't count on reflection there. 3. Par meter jumps a lot so the measurements are not super accurate, but I don't think they need to be. That is why I averaged everything in the end. 4. White and blue don't correlate completely, this might be the inaccuracy or the effect of wavelength and the effects of reflection in the tank.

Hope this serves as a data point for anyone with a similar setup. As always, Happy reefing!

Here are PAR measurements for an old BeamsWork Quad 30 on a 40 gallon acrylic breeder. These were taken with an Apogee MQ-510. These are not anything like the BeamsWork lights currently sold.

The light is a 2 channel LED
  • Lumen: 5500
  • LEDs: 40x 3 watt
  • 30x 10000K
  • 10x Actinic 460nm
The two channels work independently, but the light is broken and the blues won't turn off, so the measurements reflect this and there are none for 10K only.

The light was placed 2 inches above the water surface in the center front-to-back with the removeable top (diffuser) off, however the acrylic top interferes on the sides and through the crossbar.

There was flow from 2 opposing Jebao SOW-8, each on the lowest sine wave setting. I measured this way because this is how the tank is under normal operation. I tried my best to eyeball the average, as the flow made it jump around quite a bit.

Here is the tank and the measurement locations: PAR 40G Breeder.jpg
