A few months ago I noticed the fan wasn't working. Light was working fine and only runs at about 30% intensity so I wasn't too worried about the heat. Last month the light had a couple of issues (only green LEDs on and flashing intermittently, losing connection to Mobius, etc) but after leaving it unplugged for a couple hours and cleaning it out it has been working fine ever since (knocks on wood). I had contacted Ecotech and due to the issues and they suggested sending the light in for evaluation/repair. I couldn't be without a light for 1-2 weeks and the light resumed normal operation so I didn't do anything but still wanted to replace the fan. They were out of stock on the replacement OEM fans at the time so I was finally able to order a replacement a couple weeks ago.
After I pulled out the fan I noticed quite a bit of buildup and corrosion under the fan so I could see why it stopped working (and also why I don't think it's an issue with the main board/driver like Ecotech had mentioned could be a possibility). Unfortunately the design is such that the wire harness for the light doesn't fit through the hole so it's not a simple plug and play to replace the light. I'm usually able to find anything on the internet but I can't find one single video on an XR30 fan replacement. Found a few for the XR15 but it's a completely different animal. The only thing that comes up on this forum is people looking for replacement fans or having issues with the noise it makes.
Long story long - I asked Ecotech support if they had any videos or at least written instructions on how to swap the fan out. They do not - and all they recommended is removing the driver or "at least loosening the 2 screws on the driver to allow some movement to fit the fan connector through". I removed every screw I saw and even after that nothing really moved after giving it a few gentle nudges. I don't want to risk breaking anything by trying to force it, especially since it's been working fine without a fan for at least 3-4 months. My idea was to cut the fan wires so I could easily get them through the hole from the top where the fan lives to the bottom where the connection to the board is, then reconnect the wires and wrap them with electrical tape or kapton tape. Ecotech did not like my suggestion and reiterated that I loosen the driver and remove the LED cluster to allow enough movement to get the wires through.
Does anyone have any experience with this? My Gen3 lasted me almost 8 years and I'm pretty bummed this one is already having issues at 2.5 years. If it craps out by the time it hits 3 years I think I'm done with Radions.
