i picked up a pair back in October and they were the same size. Now one is twice the size of the other. When they pair are they male/male or male/female and how do you tell? At first I thought they both were active but now it seems as if the smaller one doesn’t really venture away from burrow opening where the bigger one always is. And at first they both would. I’m just trying to understand this species and can’t really find much out there about them. If you have any info or experiences let me know or even a good read. Thanks

Great choice on fish! I absolutely love mine!

Unfortunately, there's not a good way to figure out the sex for gobies like this. Generally if they get along and live in the same burrow, they should be okay but you may have some small squabbles here and there as they mature.

It was the one fish I wanted when I set up my tank, luckily I found a pair. It’s a long story but I’ve added 3 shrimp too. I know there’s one and a few weeks ago I caught a glimpse of 2 but I hoping all three are living in the burrow. They’ve never squabbled with each other but I seen them go up to the glass and either bite or try and kiss it all the time

Not certain about Amblyeleotris gobies, but I know that some gobies can change gender on a sort of "as-needed" basis. Yours may have been the same gender when they moved in together, but they're probably male & female by now - which may explain the growth differential.

Then them today where the one I think is over double i size for the most part. The bigger one has a plump looking belly too

Always thought the one with the big dorsal fin was the male

Well here they are now, huge size difference. I’m no expert but I swear it seems like the big one was pregnant or something. Bulge in belly

Maybe they are a pair. And maybe one is pregnant! Congrats! As long as the smaller one doesn't look malnourished and has a proper body ratio, i wouldnt worry to much.
