Randy's Tank and Learn Thread

Sorry if you said this already...do you know what PAR you're getting where the Magnifica is currently residing?

It’s in the 300 range, I think.

I’m getting very frustrated with the anemone. It moved again and ultimately detached and landed upside down on the bottom a few minutes ago. I moved it back to the island, and it gripped on, but clearly there’s some problem that I just seem unable to fix. :(

Have you tried rotating its' rock, say 180*?

Posted a thread on it in the anemone forum:

No. It’s doable but a fair amount of work. The island is actually several rocks, and some brittle stars live under one of them.

What’s the thought on that rotation?

Just throwing out a guess.
But, you keep putting it in the same spot and it keeps moving- it clearly wants something different. Rotating the rock would change the flow and angle of light, while still being in the same spot in tank.

Or keep going on the light. This are my 2 thoughts

What happens if you leave the anemone to wander? Would it eventually stop and settle somewhere else?

I’ve been more aggressive with GAC in case it is a bindable toxin.

The phyto? Seems unlikely but maybe.

Some organism irritating it? A crab? No fish except the clowns ever touch it. They do not seem to bother it.

You mean like sucked into a powerhead? lol

That’s the anemone bugaboo.

had a question for Randy Holmes-Farley what type of anemone are your clowns hosting and how did you get them to trio

It's a magnifica with 3 young tank raised ocellaris from the same batch. They may not stay as a trio, but that's the goal and I am documenting this specific aspect of the tank in this thread:

Trying a little less flow now. It’s stayed nicely on top of the island overnight.
I did notice the flow was pretty targeted at a specific area. Hopefully this change works.

Too soon to make any conclusion, but it’s good news that the anemone has not moved at all since I altered the flow lower and less direct. The clown trio goes with it wherever it goes, even when upside down on the bottom. Lol

Here they all are this morning:

What are the yellow spots on the back of the tank?
