Whatever happened to the old standby blue and red metallic discosoma mushrooms? They look good in white light, but now everything are these bubbly mushrooms with multiple colors. I had some in an early version of my old tank, such as the purple looking ones above the yellow tang:

Woohoo! The yellow tang is alive! I’ll be checking him out in person in a bit, but I see it swimming around in a corner of the tank. Not sure why it is doing that, but I’m thrilled to see it. :)

Yup. My "mentor" years ago would use his band saw and cut all the frag plugs off. It didnt matter how encrusted it was to him. He was of the belief that frag plugs harbored a lot of the bad stuff brought into our reefs and he also didnt like the looks of them. I got quite a few really nice sps corals that way. I dont care if I see a frag plug for a bit. You can always peroxide dip the plug too. He would glue the frag to a small piece of rock and epoxy the rock to his existing rock. I will admit his tank was very nice and not seeing the typical frag plug whether encrusted or not made it look more natural for sure.

Mine I recieved last week from Dr. Reef is a pig/not much algae though and isn’t timid at all. When I approach the tank he’s right there saying “feed me”. Hopefully the chromis aren’t being jerks. That’s what I would suspect though. One chromis is always a jerk in my experience. Why I’ve switching to Anthias. Though they have issues as well. Glad to hear it’s alive though.

I too was expecting the chromis to be bullying it, especially since one is quite large, but as I watch it in person, there’s a more likely explanation…
My wife, who really likes yellow tangs but does not know about them fighting said:
“You know, it looks like it is trying to fight the glass.”
Sure enough, that looks exactly like what it is doing. Fighting its reflection in a corner of the tank where my web cam cannot see it.
It looks perfectly healthy and stopped fighting to eat food I added. I guess maybe it decided the tank was now its territory and no interloping tangs would be allowed. lol

Yep exactly. It’s easy and how I have been doing it since 2012 or so.
One tip, take some glue on your finger and rub the rock, that helps remove the skin of the glue and also make a strong bond to the rock. Then glue the frag on that spot. Learned that from the old timer GARF site.

Lighting
Light intensity raised to 29%. No sign of the dino-type pests in the display. The growth on the glass and some of the rocks appears to be diatoms, as expected. Little pest issue in refugium as well. Those, the UV removal did not (yet) cause a relapse.

RO Buddie Update
Finally used enough top off water to need more ro/di. Since I last used it I added an HM TRM-1 TDS monitor on it. Readings:
Tap: 80 ppm
Post ro: 3-4 ppm tds
Post DI: 0 ppm tds

I followed this advice I had my son help me. glue, epoxy glue . Put in place hold for at least a minute. try to use the least amount of epoxy ( I used Tunz ) as possible it is pink and ugly. Be careful of epoxy choice. I don't like to dump on manufacturers and I would tell you but you don't talk privately . My first choice crumbled after a year and is useless. Tunz has yet to prove itself
