I really love hammers. In my flower bed there is, which I consider rare. It has a smoky color. :)

I'm also trying to collect all the hammers. I started searching a few months ago. The most spectacular hammer I've seen in person was a mini colony of different colored hammers and tentacles. There were the common blue greens and purples, but this one also had part of the colony with gold hammers. Besides that the other two rarest variations I've seen are two variations of gold hammer. One has gold tentacles and clear hammers but looks blue under blue light. I think some companies call it hologram but I'm not sure if it’s the same. The other one has blue tentacles and the hammers are really bright. It was called a yellow hammer at the lfs. I'm mainly looking for a blue and red/pink hammer but if I see a frag I don't have I'm tempted to buy it.
I have this red/pink hammer that I got from Low Tide Corals. I was just over there a couple of days ago and he still has one more

Lol I used to go crazy when I saw a new color for the first time. I'm still pretty obsessed with fimbriaphyllia but I need to start walking instead of running. I have good lfs in my area I saw new frags of yellow and reverse gold so they don't feel as rare anymore. The first time I saw a yellow mini colony I was like WOW I've seen fancy pictures of them online. I talked to the owner and he said there's nothing so rare he's only seen it once. When they get new shipments they do 25% off while its acclimating in the bag. He was like if you come every week eventually you'll find what you're looking for and for 25% off you can't complain.

I have a thing for hammers myself. Up to 9 now, with a 10th and 11th on the way. As for rare, I think the true black/yellow one they featured on ReefBuilders recently from Cairn's Marine is probably the rarest.

1677004986697.png

I went on a quest for an orange hammer a while back. I spent about $400 on three different hammers from three different places and only ONE of them was what I consider orange. :(

You really have to be careful buying the rarer colors online, because they can work magic with images, and they might not look ANYTHING like that in your tank.

I have Teal, Purple, Green w/Purple tips, Gold, Orange, Orange/Gold, Neon, Splatter, and 2 varieties of "Holy Grail" (one green tentacles with yellow tips and the other yellow tentacles with green tips, which is in transit). Also have a super bright yellow with mottled blue on the way. I'm looking for blue currently.

With 11 hammers, and 9 torches, I was feeling a little imbalanced. So now I'm beefing up the frog/octo collection. Currently at 6 of those. :D

Hey again everyone.... Have an awesome update here.

When I tell people I'm trying to collect hammers, I get a lot of responses about how they're a boring coral, and "yeah I've seen everything, very rare I see a new one" is common. There are definitely some mainstay hammers that seem to be in most people's reefs, but I stumbled upon a reefer who has undoubtedly the most amazing hammer collection I have seen, and maybe the best out there (would love to be proved wrong on this).

Behold the collection of @Bd.reef (Bpd_Coral_Consulting on IG). Posted with his permission of course!

Simply awesome. Seeing these rare specimens just makes me really ponder what is potentially out there that no one has yet seen.

As a reminder, if anyone has any of these amazing hammers up for trade or sale please reach out! Thanks for reading.

Anyone remember when you could walk into an LFS and buy a 3 or 4 head branching hammer for $5?

Euphyllia used to be the "beginner" coral. Now they are treated like these delicate species to which they are not.

Some real nice looking hammers in this thread.

I used to have some really nice large colonies(hammers used to be my favorite coral), until BJD took them all out many years ago. Now unfortunately the euphyllia craze took off and those $5 frags are now $500 frags. I simply refuse to pay over $100 for any frag.

Hello everyone,

I've been trying to collect hammer corals. Would be curious to see some rarer color morphs/shapes the community here has seen. IDC if it's a wall or branching, frammer, etc. Here are a few cool ones I've got saved (no clue which of these are photoshopped...):

Wowo some of these are incredible but i've twice been fooled into buying hammers online that came in looking nothing like they did online. Won't make that mistake again
Yup same here. I have some gold hammers that aren’t nearly as yellow as I have been searching. Anyone can point me in the direction to find a yellow/gold tip hammer? Similar to this
