Hi guys,

I've bought a Red Coris Wrasse last Friday and as soon as I put it in the tank he just went under the sand, and he din't come out yet. Should I be concerned? like How long should I wait before trying to dig him out, which is not going to be a fun thing since I've a lot of rocks and my corals are attached on it.

It’s a difficult decision. I once had a yellow Coris Wrasse that hid under the sand since day 1 in my tank and never resurfaced—I assume it must have died.

I went through this last week. I bought one on Black Friday, it dove right into the sand, then disappeared. 6 days later, I saw its head sticking up out of the sand, breathing. I fed the tank, and he ate, then just layed down on the sandbed, on his side, but breathing normally. He continued this behavior for a day, getting up and swimming for food then laying down on the sand. I thought he might just be stressed in his new home. I watched him at lights out, and he got up and started pecking at the rocks, which I took as a good sign. I came back down to check on him an hour or so later, and he was dead. I won’t pretend to understand this behavior at all. Thankfully my LFS gave me a credit and I was able to get a replacement, although they no longer had the red Cori’s wrasse I wanted

I've had one for a few years now and it hides all the time. Nothing wrong with it. Doesn't breather hard, slowly growing in size and not skinny by any means, but just hides a lot. When not buried in the sand bed it is out and about swiming normally. None of the fish attacked or bothered it. Just hardly ever out. Not like any other wrasse I've had. Now that I added a second coris wrasse it comes out more often. But still not out often.
