red montipora? ID?

is this a red encrusting montipora, or a red chalice? it looks like it has green eyes because it has green spots randomly. any?

i wouldnt say its hard like my orange cap or digi. and there arent any polyps like on my cap or digis. and the green spots like eyes also make me think differently.

+1 chalice and it seems you have hydroids growing around it would recomend you remove them.

Hydroids can and will sting the hell out of corals. I've never scene reddish looking ones like that before. They're usually white in color. Can you get a better pic of them? Maybe you're lucky and they're small feathers.

Yeah that's what I originally thought. They've been on for about 4 months and it hasn't changed or died so I assume it's feathers

They all called
COLONIAL STINGING HYDROIDS
Hydroids come in many shapes and sizes. If you have something that sorta resembles a feather duster, but not really... look into hydroids. They can pack a mighty sting so it is good not to let them grow next to corals. They can be brown like these, white, pink, or other colors.

They will sting corals and clams and are invasive. Manual extraction will be necessary.

Theay are very difficult to remove
